I need a new trailer, and any advice y'all might have...
« on: June 04, 2006, 17:27:34 pm »
...especially for finding one at a decent price.  My trailer is finally spent.  When out yesterday, crushed the wheel well again (this is the second time it's happened).  This time, we had to bend it back and rip off the carpeted piece just to drive the thing home from the river... it's an easy repair, but I'm ready to just give up on this and buy a new one.

Anyway, know of a trailer that's up for grabs?  Or if not, who should I talk to about getting a new one?  What brands are best?

Sorry for disappearing for so long... I've missed you guys and hope y'all have been enjoying the spring riding!

Also, if anybody wants to buy my trailer to fix it up, shoot me an email at calblethen@gmail.com and we can work something out.  It's the AmeriTrail dual axle for the direct-drive 22's.  It needs a new wheel well welded on, a new carpeted bunk piece for the inside of the wheel well, a good sand and paint job and it's good to go.  I just installed a new bow roller and winch this week.

send the thing out and get it done for 1k or so, cheaper than a new trailer. Or suck it up and break out the tools and do it yourself. PUSSY:)

Welcome  back.

I may be in your neck of the woods next week, I'm going to look at Terrys boat. We three should hook up. I better tell Terry I'm coming.

HA!  The trailer is to the point that it's ready for a complete overhaul.  It's in working condition, but things will just keep breaking.  You should see the rust on my trailer.  It lived the first 3 years of its life outside, just a block off the beach in LA.  And the previous owner beat the thing like a red-headed step-child.  ;)  I've been putting lots of money into it fixing little things that break here and there all the time.  I trailer too far and too often, so I'm ready to just start new.

Plus, I just looked on wakeworld and a friend of mine in Seattle is trying to sell his Ryan trailer for a Malibu Wakesetter, which might fit an X22 pretty well...

Glad you're looking at buying Terry's boat.  I need to give him a call, haven't talked to him since last summer.  If there is a person out there more anal than me, it's Terry.  His boat is in brand-new condition.

CAL SIGHTING>>>>

Cal, whatever you do, make sure the bunks are fit just perfectly - I've heard that ill-fitting bunks cause permanent hull problems.

If I was building a dream trailer, it would have at the minimum: oil-bath hubs, two spares tires with hard covers like the Rav4 spare, a lockable box for trailer tools, two spare hubs, transome straps, 12vdc air pump, etc. I'd want a totally overkilled tongue jack that just doesn't wobble at all. Speaking of tongue weight, it'd be nice to get the balance correct finally. Maybe even have some nice rings on the trailer made for attaching boat cover straps.

Anything else? How 'bout Line-X the steps?

My new trailer:

http://www.wakeworld.com/MB/Discus/messages/8/267964.html?1133195115

Turns out the only trailer for sale on wakeworld (or any other classified site) belongs to a buddy of mine!!  Don't worry, he cut me a deal.  I'd guess this should fit pretty closely -- it's fit for his Malibu Wakesetter.  We're going to launch both boats on Thursday (when Cyclone is in Seattle), swap trailers, and check fit.  He needs a trailer until he buys a galvanized -- I have one that's already rusted.  Perfect!!

Hopefully this thing doesn't have the tongue weight of the Ameritrail.  If it's better (and I'd guess it is), I'll definitely be adding a second spare.

I promise the Cal sightings will be more frequent.  I miss you guys (but not in a weird way...)

To clarify, Pete -- I don't expect you to go check out the trailer with me... just to have a beer after I'm finished.  ;)  I'm stoked you're coming to Seattle!  I got Friday off if you want to try for some wakeboarding before you leave.

I don't give a crap, I'll go check out a trailer. I'm but a simple caveman, your technology frightens and amazes me.

I'm in town (SEA) from noon Thurs until either the redeye thurs eve or friday morning, depending on what kind of time you guys have. The only two things on my agenda are looking at two boats (that should be fun) and drinking beer (That's pretty fun too)

I'll try to call you guys later today to figure out where to meet, etc. I'm coming into seatac and I have a rental car, so just lemme know where to go.

I have an extreme trailer now.  I like it, but the tongue weight is still a lot.  It seems to roll good though.

Pimp my ride, Epic style!!  My shiz is rollin 14's, bitches!  This is the new trailer.  Wow what a difference a trailer makes.  I honestly forgot I was towing this a few times on the 2 1/2 hour run home from seattle today.  It needs some minor mods to get the bunks to fit, but very minor (this was built for a Malibu Wakesetter VLX).  The hulls of the Wakesetter and our boats are very similar.  The V-drives I'd bet are nearly identical.  Anyway, Pete -- it was great to finally get to meet you in person.  (Epic love fest coming) as Terry and I were pulling away from the bar, I reminded him that you are "the godfather" of epicmarine.com. Honestly, if you hadn't put this site together, I never would have bought my boat in the first place.  Thanks to all the support of all the other epicmariners, I've (almost) never doubted the decision for a second.  Hopefully I'm in my Epic for the long haul -- they are great boats!

Pete and this amazing website have singlehandedly saved Toyota Epics from the scrap heap and made owners members of a cult. I predict that Epics will become a treasured find on the order of a '67 split rear window Vette as the years roll on as long as we have this website to consult. I would not own my E21 if not for the site (and Breakaway's patience).  MORE POWER to Tim "Tool Time" Taylor...er, I mean Cyclone, as well as Toyotafreak, Bitzco and all the others that make it mandatory to visit this place daily!

It looks better since you put shiny stuff on the tires! Glad to see you made it home with no issues.

It was great to meet you, Cal. Good to see Terry again, maybe we can all get together and go ride soon, I'll be back there in two weeks.

Terry,

Lets do it. See my Classifieds post:)

Wreck, thanks for the comments. I must admit that I had my own selfish reasons for getting this site started. I knew that if I got something going, the info would come out of the woodwork.

Gotta thank Lesman, all I did was get it started, he made the site what it is today. He also has saved the bacon on several (dozen) occasions. Lots of provider related problems and glitches. I would have lost all the info on the site but he managed to save it. The photo gallery, parts database, registry, latest photo links, short lived but much loved daily Boat Fluff pic, all Lesman's doing, way over my head. Props to Les!

Big oversight on my part - the site runs so smoothly that it is taken for granted. Like a world class athlete, Les makes it look easy!
