Just a small correction, the fuel pump screens are not located at the banjo fittings, but at the other end of each pump. Loosen the MJ clamp at the hose and the screens can be pulled out. You don't actually have to removed the banjo fittings.

So my X22 will start and then die.  I have new plugs, new fuel filter and cleaned the MAF.  I am pretty certain that it is the lower fuel pump, since when I press the red button only the top pump runs.  Should the bottom pump 'run' as the top pump does?  I switched connectors back and forth and no noise out of the bottom pump.

My thought is to buy both pumps, since one went out the other cant be far behind.  My thought would be to buy the whole assembly, but it cheaper to buy the pumps separately.  Am i missing something?  What is the benefit with the entire assembly?

Sounds like the pumps. Hit the one that isn't working with a hammer to make sure it isn't just a stuck bearing. Also crimp the fuel return line with vice grips, if it runs you need a new pump. If it still doesn't run it could be a loose connection. The 2 pumps come with a bracket, but if cost is a concern and you only need the one pump I wouldn't buy both. It used to be cheaper to buy both as a package but not anymore.

I did tap on the lower the lower one and nothing.  Although, how hard should I hit it?  I tried crimping it, but I am not sure if I crimped it enough (only had a channel locks) and it still did not run.

I think I may just buy both pumps separately, since it is cheaper.  This way, I at least have one backup.

Thanks for the response ktdust.

I hit it as hard as I could which isn't very hard given the limited access. I did put sime small dents in the pump though. You need vice grips to totally cut off the fuel return line's flow. The return line comes off the banjo connection directly after the pump. It's about 90 degrees from the pumps. I also bought both pumps so I have a working spare if needed. Post a reply when you get it going to help out the next guy with a similar problem. It sucks when you read a thread, but don't know if the advice given works or not.

I gave her a pretty good tap and came away with a few dents  :)  I am pretty sure she is shot, so I will be buying the lower.  I keep going back and forth about the upper.  Pretty sure I a am going to buy that one too, since if I don't, that one will go out... ha!  I will post my results.  Thanks again, ktdust!

Just got done installing new fuel pumps and we seem to be good to go, fired right back up  ;D  The bottom one was not working and since I had it apart I just replaced both.

Another possible solution, learned from personal experience today, if the engine starts but dies immediately (say 1-2 seconds) try unplugging your MAF. If it's reinstalled backwards or faulty, it will allow the engine to start, but not run.

I'm trying to recall but I think the kill switch may be part of the fuel circuitry. From what I remember boat will crank but not start. You can download the boat harness diagrams from the maintenance section.  There's also both a fuse and a relay in the circuit.
