Anyone have a how to on winterizing?

My first inboard boat and obviously fairly unique engine.

Whats the best way to get the water out of the block? or do you put antifreeze in?

Previous owner of my boat destroyed the heater core from frozen damage, do you drain that system was well?

There is a really good maintenance manual in the Maintenance section for our boats. 

I purchased mine last year and winterized it myself using this manual.  Take your time and follow the directions exactly and you will not have any problems.  Whoever put this out there helped with really good pictures and step by step guide.

The drains on the blocks are not available. So if the plug does not want to come out STOP. on the side with the hose you can drain it at oil filter .

The engine if in a 3 day freeze will crack at the head. Then I get to sell you a new engine!!!.

Putting antifreeze is also a good idea.

That was me that did the winterize manual for the D drive. Most of it applies to a V drive but there is one Derek put together that shows the extra steps to protect a V drive.

Not sure if I ever documented this but you must drain the cylindrical heat exchanger in the starboard side bilge on a V drive. It is inline with the water cooling hose. THere is a square head plug on the bottom stern end of this device, pull it to drain. I had mine crack after a cold winter. I took it out and JB Welded it back together, been fine for 10 yrs. The guy that looked at it said it looked like a Mercruiser part. I will see if I can find it in the parts section.

I can't find it listed in the parts but here's a snip from fig 13, water inlet and outlet. The part circled is the cooler I am talking about, it might be on all boats, never drained it on my D drive if it was there. If you have an unexplained water leak, check it!

Found it in 30 sec on the googlarizer. It's the transmission oil cooler. This looks EXACTLY like what I pulled off my boat and repaired.
