BEWARE OF DEALING WITH CAPT. RICK
« on: June 29, 2019, 23:01:40 pm »
So I I needed 2 swim platform brackets for my SX22.
Capt. Rick seemed to have the monopoly on our parts so I checked with him BEFORE ordering to clarify if I needed to order 2 or if 1 order included 2 full sets of brackets.
Rick got back promptly with the fact I needed to order 2.
So I did....
Only one was delivered...
And now I am informed that there are no more to be had and if I want to return the one that I have received there is a 20% restocking fee plus shipping.
I don't need just one.  If I have to fabricate a bracket set on my own that is fine but any reasonable person would have halted the order as soon as this came to light and worked with the customer before sending 1 of 2 ordered parts.
Rick says he sent a message that only one was available but it was not received by me.  Instead of waiting for clarification he allowed VintageParts to send a single unit.
Any way, be careful dealing with the Rick-ster.  Customer service is not his specialty and his lack of ability to engage is going to cost me.
I can't compel him to do the right thing but hopefully I can save someone else some pain.
It will be interesting to see how long this post is allowed to stay up.

Buying parts

Here is the email that was sent to you via same as ordering.
OK, looks like there is a refund pending for the bracket I did not
receive but now I can't purchase the second set on your site.
If they are no longer available I need to return the one I have and
fabricate my own solution.
Any help is appreciated

I have always been concerned about customers being happy. When you think your right, that make me wrong. I can't do anything about right and wrong. I was advised that the inventory was missing one. The email which you did not look at make it my fault. I am sorry you think it isn't your responsibility.

Capt Rick.

I am why can't you use the set to replace the one.

Thanks for pointing out how sometimes,  I send the same harassing email when something doesn't go the way I want.

So in summary if you send back the one set prepaid. After a RMA is issued.  Still pay shipping fees. I can refund the bracket fee $106.44 On 2019-06-29 11:11, Rick Cohn wrote: The 20 % = $21.28
Makes me LOL

So in almost 20 years you make me out to be the worst...

Here is a copy of the full emails

Never received that information until now.  you should have held off
until you had confirmation.
you still charged me for 2.
You need to take responsibility for this and make it right

That was a lot of incoherent rambling but the summary I can tolerate.
Please issue the RMA at your earliest convenience so I can get the full refund I deserve.
Cheers,
Benjamin

Rick can be a great resource but he is not in any way affilliated with epicmarine.com other than as a member. This site was founded by me in 2002 and is managed by Lesman these days as he is a big time computer whiz.

FYI the parts were sold to a warehousing company that buys and resells obsolete inventory. Lesman was able to set up Parts pages and connect it to Paypal so we can buy parts, we are very lucky they didn't get tossed in the dumpster for a tax write-off. So, we are lucky to have the parts available and tech support from Rick and other members of this user forum. We don't make any money off the parts, and the site is paid for by the users, it does not generate any income.

Rick has stayed involved all of these years and continues to help out, there are some things about the boats that only he knows.

I am very appreciative of the site and the community it supports.  The members have been extremely helpful with the few issues I have had with my boat.  As such, I never meant to impugn the site or anyone else in any way.

My goal was to pay if forward and help out the next guy based on my experience.  Hopefully they can ask sufficiently probing questions to avoid type of issues I suffered.

Had Rick communicated the fact that only 1 unit of the 2 ordered was available BEFORE it shipped I could already fabricated a new solution, not paid for shipping (x2), and payment for 2 units would never have been accepted effecting a full refund.

I am a big proponent of "You pick it up, you carry it." as well as "You screw it up, you own it".

Cheers and thanks again for the site.
