Visitor here.. can anyone tell me about this Toyota inboard motor?

I won't pretend I'm interested in Epic Boats, don't really know anything about them. I am restoring an old Mako center console 23 foot boat and I need some info from the experts. My boat originally had a 260 hp small block chevy in it.. rusted all to hell. In my search for a new motor, I came across this brand new Toyota engine on ebay, transmission and all. Never knew these existed. Anyways, I'll post the link. Tell me if I should stay away or if it's a good buy. Thank you in advance.

Awesome engine. That combo is way overpriced. We've seen those listed in the $2500 range when they do pop up. Keep in mind that engine is atleast 18 years old. Rubber products start to break down as soon as they are exposed to oxygen. You may have some seals or hoses that leak soon after firing it up after all these years. 

It is an aluminum engine. I would recommend a closed cooling system. Especially if you in salt or brackish water.  Fresh water lakes aren't bad and most owners don't have the cooling system and have gotten away with it.

It may have 300 hp but it does lack torque. It may not be enough for  23 foot boat. Most of us have very aggressive props in order to run with heavy ballast.

Thank you. That's some great info. I saw 'brand new' and 'Toyota' and got really excited. The motors I've been looking at, specifically a Mercruiser 6.2L MPI 350hp run more like $13k and that's without a transmission. Any way, it was something I had to find out about. Thanks again.
