Last stand on surfing...
« on: July 31, 2017, 06:27:24 am »
Finally had the opportunity to run the boat with the teak physically removed. Was pretty sure the platform was eating away at the shape and push of the wake, so have wanted to just straight up remove it to see art of the possible. If awesome, then could think through the trimming and raising options. Bottom line, it so sucked! 750 in trunk plus one in aft cockpit. Both shifted to the port side. There was such a fountain of whitewash I could almost get barreled, and really little push except seriously right behind the transom. Tried speeds between 9 and 14.

Thinking it was too much weight aft, I moved the second 750 from the trunk to the bow walkway (so with the first, it was like a huge water sausage from the bow to the aft end of the cockpit. Didnt ride but it didnt look like a significant change.
Did it
Board was LF Fsh. I'mbsure ballast wasn't set up right, but have had decent luck before with the teak installed and similar ballst setups using a small, real surfboard.

Still love the boat, but have closed the case on this aspect. Back to boarding and skiing. And increasingly, chilling.

Derek:

Been surfing for years and tried many setups.

Here is what I currently run:

400 lb fat sacks in both vDrive lockers
400 lb fat sack in bow walkway
400 lb in both internal ballast hard tanks

Put DIY Wake Shaper on opposite side of rider see extensive thread (bet_on_black has a great design)

https://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/showthread.php?t=70442&page=190

Also replaced my composite swim deck with teak deck and trimmed the corners.

Need more that 14 feet deep lake.  No more listing the boat with the wake shaper.

We almost exclusively surf now days.  Not the biggest wave compared to some other boats but pretty happy with the results.

homemade swim deck with corners cut and raised 3"

plumbed in with 2 reversible pumps 750 lb fat sacks in both vDrive lockers all the way back into the trunk
450 lb fat sack in bow walkway

DIY suck gate ($15 amazon aluminum suction cups and moms cutting board)

We love it and surf lots
nice clean wave with lots of push
surf is better behind my neighbours 2016 Wakesetter but it cost $160 000  ;)

Next is Surf Exhaust

Definitely interested in what you come up with for the exhaust. Our boats definitely rumble at surfing speeds.
