New X22 Owner
« on: July 31, 2017, 04:14:03 am »
Hey gang, I wanted to stop by and introduce myself and the new boat. I'm the proud new owner of a '99 X22. Should be great for my family and 2 year old son to grow up on. We'll be spending time around northern IL and southern WI.

Found the boat local on CL after looking for a Super Air Nautique for a while. The price was right and the prior owner had it for 15 years, so I apprehensively made a deal without a test drive (local river is closed due to flooding). The forum and all of my research over the past week lead me to believe it was going to be a solid boat.

Got it up to Lake Kegonsa for a shakedown after fixing the ground for the trailer lights. We got it in the water and it started right up, but ran like absolute shit! It wouldn't go over 2500rpms, kept dying and stuttering, it would bog down and shake pretty violently. I was worried it was something serious because the boat revved normal in neutral, but wouldn't run at all in gear.

We pulled it out of the water and took heed to some of your advice and pulled a spark plug. Completely black, they hadn't been changed in years. We ran to get new plugs, 20 minutes later we had the plugs changed and the boat now runs perfectly! It's leaking a decent amount of water through the driveshaft but I'll address the service this week. Probably needs a prop balance and a little work to a few of the gauges and we should be set. It's nice that such a simple fix can save the day.

I look forward to learning more about this thing and spending time with the boat. I think I got a good one!

Ryan
