Stripped Tower Bolts

2001 S22 V-Drive - White factory Tower. Two of the three bolts that hold the tower to the hull (next to the windshield on the drivers side, starboard) are stripped and spin freely. Any ideas? They are the two that are on the down side of the curve. Our factory towers have a curve to mold against the hull in that spot.

Maybe some sort of JB Weld or something?

Should be a aluminum backing plate built into the hull and Stainless Steel Nuts on the underside of the tower foot that would secure the Tower to the hull with the flat head screws (large ones)on the top side. Might have to pull out the panel under the dash to get your head up there to see. It may just need tightened a "smidge". Please inspect thoroughly prior to using tower.

You guys are friggin' geniuses!

The bolts on the port side were the ones that were spinning (fyi) so it was even easier than you described (I didn't have to remove the panel by the driver).

I reached into the "storage" area (under the glove box accessed from the walkthrough) and reached way the heck under there to the hull and found two bolts with nuts attached to them, these were the Tower bolts I mentioned...There was not a metal plate holding them, but I just tightened them up and the tower is tight again....

Just as a note, All of the upholstery nuts are 11mm.   There is a bolt that comes loose, not a nut, on the topside, Left and right, of the rear seat back. The best way to get to tighten them up if is to  A) Find an NBA player with really long arms. B) take out the rear speaker and stretch way back up in there. This would pertain to the E and X22's for sure.

S and SX same deal. I ended up removing the black plastic cubby, not just the speaker. But then again, I added ply doublers in the back because there is no aluminum there. Btw, the forward plates are in the layup, not attached to it if I recall correctly.

Also plates underneath where the tracking fin's installed. Ended up tapping it and using machine screws there instead of spec'd sheet metal scews described in the service bulletin. And if anyone out there doesn't have a tracking fin...you MUST get one!
