Gas/Fuel Gauge-Alarm
« on: July 01, 2015, 19:15:23 pm »
I have read the posts about the fuel gauge and the alarm, but I still have a couple of unanswered questions..

1. Do I need to set the fuel gauge alarm? Or does it automatically warn you at the certain level of empty (was it 2.7 gallons?)
2. My fuel gauge went from full to below half in about 5 hours of engine time, then hovered around 3/8 for the next 5 hours. Do I need to replace the fuel gauge? Or is it something more serious?
(not leaking gas, no fumes as we run it, not smelling like gas etc.)

The gauge reads differently whether you're on the trailer, in the water, or on plane. After all these years, still feel the need to record the same tank fill at least on the water then on the trailer. Tried a few times in the past and just restarted. Not aware of the alarm, but 5 hours reading at 1/2 then 5 more sounds in the ballpark. Bottom line, once it reads empty on the water (idle or stationary) you've still got maybe two hours at 25 or so. I have run it out of gas once. That sucked.

Thanks Toyotafreak. I saw it change levels as I was on plane, or sitting idle, or wakesurfing (going slow with the stern in deep). It was almost always on Full when I am on plane, then on Full while surfing, then at about 1/4 when I idled....I am pretty sure I should assume the idle reading is close to correct. Now that I think about it 10 hours on about 30 gallons should be about right...I probably had 10 left in the tank. (3 GPH). We don't idle very much, I like to get people in and out of the water quickly so we can all have lots of turns...so the fuel burn rate at 3gph or a little higher than that would make sense.

I think I just learned to trust the "at idle" fuel measurement on the gauge.

Try this one: 3/4 on water, just over 1/2 on trailer, 13.8g to fill the 47g tank.
