Need repairs on Epic S22 in Michigan!
« on: August 11, 2014, 17:03:06 pm »
Can anyone tell us of a competent dealer in Michigan that can fix our Epic S22?? We recently purchased this from a family member that has had it in storage. Boat has extremely low hours but keeps breaking down. Already took it to a dealer that does not seem to know how to work with this boat. If anyone can tell us of a marina that is familiar with these boats and really knows how to fix it we would greatly appreciate it!

If engine problems you might try your local lexus or toyota dealership.
If they can diagnose the issue the Rick can most likely assist with parts needed.
I am lucky to live in an area that has a boat place that can actually work on these boats still.

Also check with some of the old dealers listed in the above thread...they may be able to point you in the right direction.

I just bought my Epic a few years ago.  I have found that most issues you can have are already discussed on this forum somewhere.  Running a search for your specific problems may help point you in the right direction.  If that does not work then list specific problems you are having and forum members may be able to help you.  Quite often that can work better than going to a mechanic.  At the very least it may help point you in the right direction so you know what to point the mechanic to.

I will say this much though, 90% of the issues I have had with my EPIC so far could be attributed to poor gas quality.  This may not be the same for everyone else, but I have a lot of trouble with ethanol gas and have now switched to only using "E0" ethanol free gas and my boat runs 100% better (even with a lower octane count).  These boats are more sensitive to poor gas than my previous Malibu's so this has been a bit frustrating to me, but it is running great now.  Good luck.  I hope you get it worked out.

Agree with you Echelon, most all thing I have had issues with I was able to find solutions on the site. I have never had to take mine to a mechanic yet.

I tried the non ethanol route, very hard to find a good source in my area, the issue I had was the gas I got was crap and low octane, boat ran like crap and the engine knocked so bad I thought it was a rod knocking.

I only use premium fuel (high octane) and I am using Ethanol blended with no issues at this time.

Nothernlatty:

When I first got my boat I had some similar issues that I can attribute to the previous owner not keeping up basic maintenance; hard to start, sometime would die, rough idle, missing, not getting to full RPM, sluggish...all of this was 100% remedied by performing these basic maintenance items.

Some other areas to pay special attention to to keep them running in top form:

1. Clean the MAF Sensor EVERY year, very easy to do, takes about 10 minutes. You can pick up a can of MAF cleaner from any local auto parts store.
1.1 Clean Flame Arrestor EVERY year with throttle body cleaner from local auto parts store
1.2 Clean Trottle Body EVERY year with throttle body cleaner from local auto parts store

2. Keep spark plugs in good condition, suggest to change these every few years for top performance, use GOOD plugs. If you don't know for sure when the last time was these were changed I suggest that you change them.

3. Use a fuel stabilizer each year when winterizing and top off the tank...fuel will settle over time and a non full tank will collect water condensation faster. This will can make them run bad until all the old fuel is run out...you mentioned that the boat was sitting for a long period of time, may be best to have the tank emptied.

4. Check / Replace the fuel filter...removes any water and debris from fuel line, do this at the same time tank is cleaned out.

5. If running sluggish or slow check that both fuel pumps are running. Search forum for "fuel pump".

All of these are basic maintenance items that any DIY can handle.
