So glad to hear from Pete, Cal and Derrick.  You guys helped me so much in the earlier days.  My SX is still running strong - off to our annual pilgrimage to Flaming Gorge next week!

Boat is running like a top again:) Alternator seized, destroyed v belt, I was in the middle of the channel on a sat by myself just testing it. I had to push it a bit to get to where I could anchor. It got hot, but didn't hurt anything. New alt, belt, impeller, cleaned up the pulleys, got a replacement tstat just in case. The temp still pegged but the engine runs cool, used an ir temp gun and both hoses for tstat were at 170, you can put your hand on the exhaust manifold water jacket, engine is normal temp all over. So, I got a new gauge sending unit this morning. I will replace the exhaust hoses and all the cooling hoses on the engine just for good measure. And clean the daylights out of it.

Sssssoooo, I got my Mojo back, basically. Wohoo, lake is empty now that college football has started LOL!

thanks to the awesome Forum search, I found Rust n Rots posting of thermostat cross reference to Stant part no's,  while standing at the counter at oreilly's;) reposted here for future reference.

stant 14077 170 deg thermostat
Stant 27286 tstat sealing ring

Hey Cal, que pasa? You back in Yakima or old profile?;)

Pete, you said you were going to use an auto alternator but closely inspect the differences. What'd you find/do? Always wondered about starter and alt...

My guy who has deep ties in marine stuff, master mech etc says he inspected them both and there's no difference, no screening or any obvious marinization. It was at his cost, 178$, from imports direct. It would have been the same cost as the one on the site if he didn't use his business discount. (374$)

I notice there's a brush cover in the parts list, I wonder if there 's any real differences. He insists its just the color. He's a drag boat guy, full time mechanic. i will disassemble the core to check it out;)
