I'm BACK
« on: July 22, 2014, 03:38:31 am »
Been a tough couple of years and had to mothball the mighty SX but got through a the BS intact with my finances, old cars, self respect, mojo and most importantly, the boat. It needs some work but I've deployed a top man to get her straight.

Had two overheating incidents over the years. One due to an undocumented winterizing procedure for the trans cooler, only applicable to vdrive boats. Did a field repair to the cooler (jb weld) that has held up.

The second was due to a seized alternator (factory) that popped my serpentine belt. I was in the middle of the channel, 3 foot chop and had to push it to safe water. It got hot.

So, both times it caused damage to the exhaust hoses. If you overheat, replace them. They will eventually collapse, fail and cause you to sink. A pringles can and three 4" hose clamps can save the day, hear me now and believe me later;)

Anyway, good to be back and I will keep you all posted on the progress, I'm cautiously optimistic.

So my guy tells me that the exhaust hose is available at O'reillys auto parts if you know what to ask fer.

Hey welcome back buddy. Glad to hear you made it through the mess.

I may need to keep Pringles on board for more reasons than snacks by the sounds of it !

Hmm, I've never winterized by vdrive. Changed the oil a few times. What else is there?

Good to see ya back Cyclone.  Since I keep my S22 in a heated insulated shop over the winter, I've never winterized my boat either.  What trans oil filter service are you referring to?

Thanks you guys. mechanic tells me my seized alt (big stereo, lots of pumps, heater, tower lights, leds, shower, escalator,my fault) is no different than a standard car alternator partnumberwise. I'll examine both carefully.

my pulleys are rusty and pitted, storage is brutal under a black cover. I will get it back in the garage soon, my guy is rebuilding a nissan motor for my kids car and my old merc is in the carport. it is running like stink and chirps second so hard the car goes sideways:))

Thanks guys, glad to see you're still going strong here!  I wonder if my boat has re-surfaced here since I sold it?  The guy I sold it to planned to use it on a small lake in B.C.  It's hard to believe that was something like seven years ago now...

It's shown up here I believe. Think Supermike bought it and I believe it's on lake okanagan in kelowna. I see him around town quite often. However, I wouldn't call 90 miles long and 900 feet deep a small lake.

Hey ktdust, do you mean Supramike?  I think that might be a different guy, mine was a black/white X22.  Pete, you out there?  I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted to say hello!  :)
