Wakejunky, you're awesome.  I've had my fresh water system on for over 5 years now.  Let me know if there is any measurements I can take for you.

WOW! That's probably the cleanest "shop" I've ever seen. Nice job.

What is your thought about using high temp silicone such as Permatex Ultra Copper Max. Temp. RTV Silicone Gasket Maker for the crossovers and water pump?

masonlk- one of my biggest pet peeves is a dirty shop. Most technicians are just too lazy to clean up their shops, very few are too busy to do it. I hate working in an oily greasy mess.

silicone gasket maker is a good idea. Back in the day all Toyota and Lexus water pumps had a small groove in the sealing surface of the water pump it gave it a little more holding pressure. The factory stuff is "Toyota seal packing 103 (FIPG)" part number 00295-00103. Ive never had any silicone seal as good as this stuff. I'm sure permatex would be fine.

had a little time at work to poke around and see what other manufacturers use for "marine" gaskets. looked at indmar quite a bit looks like the mainly uses paper and composite gaskets for the water issues. I was able to find our water pump gasket in  paper gasket and I'm sure you could just make the crossovers out of some gasket paper. id probably use a combo of paper and Toyota silicone. really starting to appreciate that FWC system i put on the boat ;D

skibeau- as far as thermostat temps, Indmar uses 160 degree in the FWC systems. Monitor who built ours talks about using 160 also. I emailed them for some more info. ill post it when i hear back. from just looking over various boat forums most use either the 140 or 160. 160 is only common on the newer boats. Some company does make a (marine 180) but most people thought it wasn't a good idea, and mentioned the exhaust possibly getting too hot.

If I'm not mistaken, with my Fresh Water Cooling system, I have a 160 degree thermostat.

Awesome news about the 4.3L engines, although Toyota rated our 4L at 310hp/300tq (IIRC) and the 4.3L at 290-300hp/325tq.  I wonder if there would be an easy way to get a 4.3L to more like 330hp/325tq (or higher).

Im used to GM stuff where I can tune it easily for a bigger engine, we're not as lucky with these Lexus engines (AFAIK).

Just doing my typical epicmarine research before I start a new project and I came across this thread about wakejunky rebuilding an engine for another member.  It was a great reminder that although our boats are unique in the wakeboat industry the parts for them are not.  Almost all off the shelf with a few exceptions like the stainless exhaust manifolds.

We can get a 1UZ-FE block used for $775 bucks. http://www.jdmflorida.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=57  This is the original non-vvti version but supposedly they are pretty stout engines.

Maybe even upgrade to a 4.3!

Long story short, replace the digital gauges with analog, replace the DECC with manual switches or Cyclones Epic-PI (ePIc) mod jack up the swim step, add a wake maker, buff/wax/clean and you have a boat that will easily be a contender for the next 20 years!

Did I mention I love my Epic!   ;D

quick story many years ago I was called because a mechanic installed a engine and it kept  throwing computer code for VVTI.  After a long and expensive testing determined the engine was not a VVTI engine. So the oil supply line was not there to operate the VVTI. So the customer bought a complete engine from me which was less then the bill to r+r and engine down to the short block.

There are 2 reason the engine needs to be replaced. One is not a proper winterization and the block cracks at the top of the cycliner wall I have seen an average of 1-2 a year.

2 nd is when a manifold fails and water gets in the cylinder and sits until it hydro locks and bends a rod. or damages the valve.

I would suggest testing the manifold by removing and looking inside for water. Replacing spark plugs every year. Specially if you wake board. Since the engine does not have o2 sensor it tends to dump fuel in exhaust. cause back fire and crack manifold at hot spot. Average time is about 800 - 1200 hours for wake boarders if they don't change plugs.
