New guy checking in - Epic 22
« on: March 11, 2008, 05:06:56 am »
I'm hopefully picking up my new (to me) Epic 22 tomorrow. It was for sale at Waterski America in Dallas. I went to look at it on Friday. It was owned by one of the guys that works there. He called me after work and turns out he even lived near my house. He offered to take me out on the Epic on Sunday. He introduced me to the boats original owner too.

It was bought new at Phil Dill Boats in Lewisville, Texas and lived it's life on Lake Lewisville in Shady Shores, TX.

Some of the vinyl is rough, but the boat runs great. It has Perfect Pass, the factory wake tower, 4 speakers, plus 2 Bose 151's on the tower, a 4 channel amp, sub, and Kenwood CD player. Trey (the previous owner) liked to use a bunch of ballast so it has an aftermarket prop for better bottom end acceleration installed too.

I am a little confused because this is an Epic 22, but it has the same wake tower as the X22's I have seen. Was this a factory or dealer option in 1999?

The weather should be good here on Wednesday and hopefully we'll be taking it out.

I hope to get some ballast/fat sacs installed soon. Trey is hooking me up with a 1000 lb sac that will hopefully fit in the rear locker and I've got a 440lb Launch Pad and three 150lb Launch Pad big blocks that I think I can stick up in the bow until I get a better fitting solution.

A little about me. I am a Toyota nut. I have a 2007 Tundra double cab with the 5.7 V8 and redrock leather interior. I've had about 50 (yes fifty) Toyota MR2's. I own ATS Racing an import performance shop that specializes in the 1991-1995 Toyota MR2's. I currently have a 1991 turbo MR2 that has put down just over 600whp and a 93 turbo MR2 that makes a mild 290 horsepower at the wheels.

I'm sure I'll have dozens of questions soon.

Congrats again Aaron.  Is your MR2 blue by chance and is East of the High School?

Welcome aboard Aaron. You have found the spot to make owning an Epic even more fun than you anticipate. I cannot answer your question regarding the tower but I am sure someone will cover that topic in no time. In fact, the only answer I know is "change the plugs". It seems to solve most issues. Oh, oh, wait... No, you don't need the expensive iridium plugs. I forgot that I knew that one also. Note that the first answer is guaranteed fact whereas the second one is opinion. See how I can go on about nothing - thus my name.
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

My Ferrari is blue (it's an old Magnum PI style 308 GTS). My MR2's are dark green (does look kinda blue) and silver.

I just got the Epic. It's parked outside my shop. We are definitely taking it out tomorrow, and maybe tonight. This is DeWayne's old boat. Trey said you knew all of them.

Welcome Aaron, nice looking boat. Every time a "new" boat gets posted I'm always amazed to see how well they've been kept up and how classic the lines of the boat are looking.

I didn't know you were still on here. We love the boat. Lots of friends and about 900lbs of fat sacs from my Sea Ray and it makes an awesome stand-up jet ski wake. I'll post pics in a minute.

Aaron,
Nice boat, glad to have you on the site. the tower and ballast were a factory and dealer option on all Epics. Even the AWSA approved comp ski boat Epic 21!!

Most parts are still available, use the TMS Parts link in the blue bar near the top of the forum. I'd suggest getting the seat skins while they are still available. They are pretty cheap, the cushions are available but cost 2-3x more. For example, my front side seats were split, the skin was available and was 88$ You can put it on yourself, use stainless staples.

Post some pics of those cars, I was eyeballing a 308 the other day. Got a musclecar I'm gonna sell I think....

The interior part I need the most is the back/top of the back seat (in "surf" color). It looks to be unavailable at the TMS parts link.

Oops, that's the whole seat. Looks like the part number I need is MUP10900240, but that isn't listed (I found it in an excel file of part numbers/descriptions).
