extra Bilge pump for v-drive
« on: September 14, 2007, 05:11:46 am »
Has anyone with V-drive thought about putting a extra bilge pump in the back? I noticed that water accumulates near the engine when surfing with full ballasts and people, and the bilge pump in the bow sees no water since bow is up. I had one time took on a lot of water going over my own wake, the saw water splashing all over the engine while surfing, even near air-intake. I heard most other boats have two bilge pumps, one in front and one near stern. Any ideas?

On more than one occaision when underway for long periods I've had a check engine alarm and power down to idle... and each time I had water up to the bottom of the engine.   I've since fixed my water issues.... but this would be good idea... b/c if you spring a leak and don't know it while motoring the current bildge setup doesn't keep you out of trouble.

Good point guys. I have thought about wiring a second pump in case the first one failed (or couldn't keep up) and had expected to put it alongside the forward one. Your idea is better, to cover both cases. Heck, even if off plane, if there was a serious problem the aft pump would be able to help as the water level rises. I know there is an unused wire pair back there intended for (probaby) the shower I don't have installed.
