In-dash receiver with SD card slot
« on: August 23, 2007, 03:50:01 am »
I'm looking (but not wholeheartedly) to see what's out there. I really like loading up an SD from the laptop and running that through the deck. Have been using a VR3 one that reads SD and thumb drives (FM transmitter), but it's broke and wasn't stereo.

I found a VR3 one which does is and goes for $109, but although I love cheap, it makes me scared.

Anybody else looked into this?

Which VR3 transmitter did you have?  The white one or the black one?

I have the white one - VRFM9 - and love it - I don't use it in the epic though because I have a pioneer deck that reads mp3 cd's I burn.

I like the white one because I can use the SD card, usb stick or run my portable satellite radio through it.  Then I don't need to bring the whole "car kit" dock - cords etc.

I don't know if I would trust the VR3 stuff as my head unit - I have been happy with my gadget but would go with a name brand for head unit itself.

If you don't need CDs at all check out the Blaupunkt Melbourne SD27 at Crutchfield - sounds like a bargain at $150 at it has good reviews.

Thanks, and yes I use the white one (Walmart online). I love that 1GB of 128 kbps music is a nice playlist and you never ever have to listen to a skip. I just saw a 2x2GB deal for like $35 after renbate. That's a lot of music, for sure. Could just get an iPod, but like this approach better.

The white VR3 is good except it's not stereo and mine stopped transmitting two days into our eight lake days.

I'd drop that coin on the blaupunkt before getting another $50 gadget or an ipod.
I thought I got a warranty on the vr3 but I had it on the xm radio.

Do you have an aux in on your current deck?
That is about the only way I would go portable player. (see I didn't say Ipod - since I'd never buy one for a bunch of reasons)
