Need help with depth finder
« on: June 20, 2007, 03:03:19 am »
I have a 2001 SX and the depth finder is all over the place. It's never worked right since I've owned it. When I first got it I noticed it wasn't glued down properly. So I picked up some marine epoxy and glued it back down, but it still doesn't work. I've already ran the dedicated power and ground to the DECC. It fixed all the guage problems, but did nothing for my depth finder. (I used 8 guage wire). I read on the Lowrance website that it should be mounted on the aft 3rd of your boat. Of course all the v-drive models its mounted next to the bilge pump. Do I need to move it? I'm sure somebody else has or has had this problem, any input?
Just cant figure it out. My depth finder on my old E22 never had a problem, it was mounted in the rear if that matters.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Doug

When the number flash the read out is bad.
Most times there is a airvoid under transducer.
need to remove and grind away liner till you get the hull only.
Reinstall if you break it but another...

Break it what?  Hey Capt Rick, I have tried & tried to get my depth finder working.  Very erratic, no reading, then it reads for awhile then it flashes, blah blah blah.  If I grind down my liner and glue the transducer to fiberglass won't it add the risk of water getting between the liner and the boat.  Do you think the placement of the depth finder is right?  It seems the transducer is placed pretty far forward.  If I am going to grind away liner do you think I should move it back?  Has anyone installed the "foot style" transducer on the back of the boat next to drain plug??  Is there a lowrance part # for it?  Will it work with our boat?

Any help would be great!

Mine is already glued to the hull, I was assuming they did that at the factory. and Yes it does allow a butt load of water between the hull and liner. do I need to seal the hole? if so how? 5200?

MGA001151304   Module,DepthSounder,Transducer    $83.33

TMS poorly installed alot transducer.. Do not use 5200 it will never come out...I guess you can install it near transom for better signal at high speed. Or buy a transom mount... 200 mhz unit

Hey wakejunky,

I've got water between liner and hull too. If you get it out, post how. I was trying to figure out if you could pull a vacuum on the whole liner, but never got past thinking...

Tilt bow high, remove thru hull clean area, or rudder port or strut, clean area of silicone let gravity suck. wait. wait wait.
How do you know there is water....if you see it drain let it drain.
