No Raw Water Suction
« on: June 03, 2007, 19:14:54 pm »
After replacing my obviously bad impeller I am still not getting any raw water from the pump into the boat.  I have the boat on a Fake a Lake in the driveway and no water is entering the sea strainer (I emptied it to be sure) nor coming out the exhaust pipe.

Since a number of the vanes on my impeller where missing parts could those parts be blocking up the system or does the system easily pass small pieces like that?

Next step will be to pull the hose from the raw water intake and see if I can feel any suction.  Any other suggestions welcomed.

impellers have no direction until installed. Was the cover in good shape. yes you need to remove all broken impeller to get water flow... follow the hose to thermo housing and remove parts untill you get all broken blades out......

The cover was in good shape, no corrosion or pitting at all.  I cleaned it with a rag and re-installed.

I am assuming you want me to start on the engine side hoses of the water pump since that is the direction of flow?

This can't be good.

I mated the fake a lake to the bottom of the boat so it would pressurize the system.  This filled up the strainer and pushed water into the entire cooling system.  There is a huge leak from the point where the raw water hose attaches to the cooler thing a ma jig that is under the water pump side manifold.  Water is just gushing out of there.  See attached pic...

The lack of a good seal from the fake a lake to the boat is also a prime suspect as to the boat not pulling in water.  Once it was sealed well a few gooses on the throttle and the boat shot water out into the garage.

From the TMS parts page it looks like my Transmission cooler is toast unless there is a seal or some way to repair the raw water side of the cooler.

Oil is not murky or over filled.  Still looks a beautiful clear red.  I am going to pull the cooler tonight and give it a good inspection and then order the new part.  Should be real fun getting it out of there...

The boat was winterized by my barely capable hands.  I followed the TMS procedure (TSB45) to the letter which has you turn the engine over with the kill switch pulled (Step 7).  My guess is with the bad impeller it probably did not pull the water out of there.  Although I have the shower installed on my boat and as a backup procedure I ran both the hot and cold water taps with the pump on and this also pulled a bunch of water out of the system.

Pulled the cooler out and it is definitely heading to the trash heap.  It is funny how there is a convenient little drain bolt right on the cooler that still has the original paint on it.

Capt do you know if there are any of the thumb knobs for the new style towers left?  I saw that one of the SX's had them and it seems like they would be easier for tower fold down than the allen head bolts that I currently have.

Any more Fresh Water Cooling kits available for the V-Drives?  If not are these parts readily available on the open market, per brad's thread here http://www.epicmarine.com/forum4/index.php?topic=1087.30?

I have noticed that most of the marinized parts on the toyotas are also available at most of my local marine stores.  So after we have depleted the toyota stock, or the 10 years are up is there a way to get the mapping from toyota part number to industry part number?

Is there a way for you to figure out what parts are missing so I can determine if it will be possible to complete the kit without having to get parts fabricated?
