I think that is pretty a pretty valid assumption.  If the boat sank four years ago and has ben rebuilt and been used for years, the current owner "didnt even know it had sank" I think its pretty safe to say it is probably ok.

A boat, even these boats are pretty simple, I think as long as there isnt structural damage to the haul they are pretty easily rebuildable...

It would be interesting to find out how many hours were on it at the time it sank and how many hours are on it now. I know the dash display isn't working, however I believe the engine's ECU stores hours as well. If only a few hours have been put on the boat since sinking I would be more leary than if a couple hundred have been racked up.  Maybe someone else can chime in on reading engine hours from the ECU.

Can our boats be accessed with a standard OBDII scanner or do we need to rent one from Capt Rick?

You need to rent the scan tool from capt rick, but if your boat isn't triggering a code it won't help.

My brother looked at that boat and the pictures are very deceiving. looks like it has had several hull repairs and I don't think the gauges worked at the time(may be fixed now). For that cost I would steer clear.

smars - Thanks for letting me know!!  I wished people were a little more trustworthy over the phone.  I asked about any hull repairs and didn't get anything like that...glad I didn't make a special trip out to see it!!

I ended up finding another boat...sorry to say this on this website, but it's a 2005 Moomba Mobius LSV.  Too bad the season is done around here...I may have to try to get it out once before it gets winterized!

there needs to be a company who does something like a carfax but for boats instead then that way you wouldn't have to worry about what happened to it in the past because there would be a history that would follow it . good luck !
