Cyclone,
Thanks for the info, I checked the other part # Tryme posted and it is a 190 degree type.
Agai, Thanks and welcome back.

http://m.autopartswarehouse.com/results/?Ntt=thermostat&searchType=global&N=0&uts=true

The stant 14077 is listed as a replacement along with the mishimoto that I posted previously. It looks physically closer in appearance to my stock thermostat than the stant does. It also has a 155 deg open temp...closer to stock 160 deg.

When I winterize my boat this year I will look at this option closer.. may even be the guinea pig for this as mine is due a change.

Hey cdlollar ... What was the part number for the mishimoto replacement you found? Link doesnt seem to be working.  I am looking for a replacement for my OEM tstat, just trying to keep it at or near 160 degree.   Thanks for the good info everyone, wish we had more factory ones left!

Sorry Epic4Life, link went dead...not showing on their site any longer.
Here is a new link to it on Summit Racing site.

http://www.summitracing.com/search/department/cooling-heating/part-type/thermostats-mechanical/make/lexus/model/ls400

Mishimoto: MIO-MMTS-TC-05L

As noted I have not tried this one out yet, but it has been listed along with the Stant 14077/78 on several sites as being an equivalent replacement.

If you try it out please come back and advise if it is a fit....I will do the same if I get to it first.

If there are two thermostats available, one at 155 degrees and one at 170 degrees, which would be preferred? I understand that less temp equals more power but how much power do we need? Less temp also means more engine wear, less gas mileage and more particulates in the oil. I have the lighter E21 and don't do the heavy pulling of some members so maybe power is less important to me but it also seems that folks with heavy pulling requirements address the issue with various props. My boat scoots across the lake like a scalded dog and unless a 200 lb.+ novice slalom skier asks for a pull when my boat is loaded to the max with human ballast, I don't give a second thought to who jumps in for the next pull. Thoughts?
Don't be so humble, you're not that great.

I know this thread is 4 yrs old but I need to know if the mishimoto stat work ed for anyone. I'd rather go with this one as it looks close to oem.
Thanks!
