Low voltage
« on: June 20, 2015, 02:10:16 am »
I have an issue with low voltage from the alternator it has been an issue since the boat was new but now I would like to use it more. As you accelerate it drops to 10.2 and even at Idelle it is 11.2. I have verified that the indication is correct the alternator is new, any ideas? X 22 millennium
I also had the pick up tube in the fuel tank fail I made on from some materiel that I had and it seems to be working well anyone see this happen?
Thanks for the input

Good you're getting her out! Lots and lots of material on the site about this. I get the low voltage alarm as you described. Bottom line, the alternator's fine, the voltage it fine. It's the indicator function that's basically false alarming and reading low. I ignore it and reset the message center alarms when they happen. LOTS of good reading for you in the archives.

Thanks, and wow you're right lots to read,
Looking at some of the issues people are having I went back and tested the output at the alternator and it was 0. Just the 11.4 volts that was the same as the battery which is way to low. This alternator has less than 10 hrs and was installed new several years ago. Put in a new one and am now getting 13.4 volts. Must be the Lake Havasu heat, 117 today😅
Thanks for the answer, this is a great site.

Pete had to replace his too. Love to hear details on what you replaced it with.

BTW, holy crap, you're at Havasu! 12 years never seen another Epic there! Will you be back for the 4th?

It's a long story but the after the new alternator was installed the old one tested good so I put it back in and it works great. I will be having the bad one rebuilt and put it on the shelf.
We actually live (well most of the time) at Havasu Palms on Whipple bay. We are headed back today and will be there on the 4th, come on by we could have a "regatta"

I actually have a giant pimpalicious black Navigator and my trailer is good to go, might be tempted. You need to consider the east coast roundup happening aug 1 at mi casa in Gainesville ga

Havasu is a great place would love to see more Epics here!!
We lived in Perry Ga. From 1992-2001, picked up the epic from Atlanta Marine, then Texas were we learned about this group on Lake Lewisville and now Havasu. Wish we could load up and make the trip back to meet some new friends and see some old ones we left behind. Maybe next year if you do it again. Thanks to all that make this a great site full of great information

Ditto thanks to all! So many good resources here!

Havasu Palms, huh... We'll cruise by for sure. Btw, my test drive was on Lewisville in '03... Sold to original owner at Phil Dill. They're in the sales brochure (Matt and Chad Edens).

Wish everyone could experience Havasu our way. Also would love to hang with the rest (NW, dirty South, etc.)

But Havasu's GREAT!

That was actually me. I didn't even notice your boat. I'm usually the only Toyota out here.  I know you come out here based on some of your posts. The only reason I saw this post, is because I was looking through here trying to find out what the deal is with the blinking dash switches. I had no navigation lights because of them. Coming in from watching fireworks with no lights was an adventure. I'll be on the lake again today and Monday. I'm not sure if you'll still be here, but I'll look for you.

Did you try the perko switch? Mine were flaky last trip then switched out battery and things back to good...
