E22 Trunk Struts
« on: April 09, 2015, 20:49:04 pm »
Our 22 did not have the trunk struts when we bought it last year, and I dont even see where you are supposed to mount them. Does anybody have pictures of what the assembly looks like as well as some info on the size of the strut? All I can find is that they are 15" long. I was going to try to fabricate something this weekend. Thanks!

There is a ball on the hinge where they attach.

That is what I figured, but the diagram that you posted shows it in the middle of the trunk.

If I mounted it on the ball on the hinge, where does the other end mount?

Anybody have pictures?

I know that in 99/2000, the cylinder was mounted differently and the trunk would only partially open. this changed in 2000 some time, center mounted strut and trunk that opens almost vertically. You definitely want to mount it according to the later method.

I can take pics of mine, I reinforced the lower mounting point, my trunk lid is broken on both corners where the hinges are but the support works. I leave it closed all the time:)

I'd love pictures. I just replace mine with these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MUTE1O (15" 20lb) late last year, but I have the old style lifts mounted at the ends, and the trunk definitely doesn't open all the way

I would really appreciate a couple of pictures. Thanks!
