Is this transmission still available? What are you looking to get for it? I was out last weekend and my tranny started acting up. Slipping.

Did you check the fluid level of your transmission? A co-worker of mine had a slipping transmission in their tige.. First mechanic wanted to replace it, they decided to get a second opinion, and it turned out it was just low on fluid.

Thank you for the advise. I am planning to do a full flush maintenance this weekend. Water temps are still high enough for me to run it so i am hoping this works. I just like to make sure all of my bases are covered. I will make sure to post the outcome.

These bits of metal were in the transmission filter. I went to change the fluid and found I these fragments in the filter. Shaking the filter causes a rattle, so there must be more logged in the filter itself. I spent today removing the tranny. it took 2.5 hours with help, but neither of us had ever done this type of work. Now I need a new one, or a rebuilt one, or have this one rebuilt or buy a used one. Any comments, opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Could metal pieces be coming from the filter itself and not parts of tranny

Some of it does look more like filter parts.  Its a risk, but may be worth the hassle to clean the lines, replace the filter, re-install and refill with clean fluid.  But then again, if you already have it out, go ahead and have it rebuilt.  Depending on the hassles of remove / install, you might be able to save yourself the price of a unnecessary rebuild by just cleaning and reinstalling...

Probably the go-to guy on this topic is a member named "Water Sports"  it appears as though he has had several Toyota boats in a waterski school and has maintained them himself, many of them I believe over 3000 hours.  You may want to contact this member for his thoughts.  Its where I would go if I had your challenges.

This is why I purchased this boat. Not only is it a great ride, but where else could you get such great support? Thank you for your comments. Keep them coming. I really appreciate it.

Pretty good time on the removal. How big are these pieces?  I agree looks like filter parts, what does the filter look like now?  Could have been replaced.  Maybe contact previous owner to see any parts were replaced or something broke before.  Probably won't though.  How many hours?  These trannys are tough,  thousands of hours is life span with no miss use.  I also, would spend the time to flush and clean and test, unless you can get a great deal.  Does it turn smooth in both directions in and out of gear?  How does the coupler look?  All the rubber bushings in place?  Also check prop shaft, make sure its true.  Rotate shaft by hand with a ruler perpendicular to the end.   Never had a tranny problem, replaced a coupler dew to previous owner screw up.  Rick would sell a good used tranny.  Make sure to line up prop shaft perfectly.  Let us know what you find.  Doug

If you are still looking for a transmission let me know, I have a complete drivetrain (motor & tranny) for sale. block is cracked but tranny is perfect and has very low hours (less than 100)

thanks-
