DYI boat lift winch-electric winch add on (Anyone try it?)

I have an old triton boat lift.  and I was reading a couple people using ATV winches rather then spend the 900 to buy from the manufacturer.  just wondering if anyone has attempted this.  looks like 150 for the winch.  and 20 for a solar panel to charge the battery.  plus misc expenses.  just seeing if anyone has attempted.

Sorry, bud. We're not fortunate enough to have the boat lift. Instead, we tow 5 hours each way a half dozen times a year. You're much greener. Think you'd be okay even with a top fuel boat lift engine...
