What do you call it and where do I get one...?
« on: November 18, 2007, 21:04:36 pm »
What is the name of the round brass puck-shaped, spring loaded thing-a-ma-jig that is on the transom and is used to tie the ski ropes, tubes, etc too??? It scews onto a bolt with a spring that comes from inside the rear storage area.

Mine had been loose many times and I would tigheten.  This time it came off while on the lake and is now on the bottom of the lake somewhere.  TMS part number anyone?

That sounds like the rear pop-up cleat ....... NEVER use this to tow anything !!!!!!!!!!! You can severly damage your hull and hurt someone in the process...............................

I tow all the time with the pop up cleat and I've never had any trouble.  Have people been having problems with them?

Hey, I used to have an E21 and I think the owners manual said you could tow with this.  I am pretty sure it is stout enough for it.  Wreck, could you look in your manual and verify?

Oooo... I would not do that. I think they are for mooring, not towing.  What's wrong with the ski pylon?

If you go to the "Epic Literature" tab on the home page and look at the page that says "2001 Options"  it lists a "Pop Up Rear Tow Cleat" for the 21, 22 and sx22.  It is my assumption that a "Pop Up Rear Tow Cleat" would be O.K. to tow with.  It makes sense, as you cannot use the back seat if someone is using the center pylon for skiing.  I dont think I would tow a Big Mabel 40 mph with six kids on it with the "Pop Up Rear Tow Cleat".  Its the "Pop Up" part that makes it sound weak!  I would tow a skier, a wakeboarder or a small tube with it though.

Of course I am here (lake) and the manual is there (home). I will grab it when I get home and look but I seem to recall reading that you can tow with it. I have tried but find it very hard to get lined up - the boat seems to scoot out on me and I can't get turned around.

According to owner's manual, it is called a tow eye.

1. Do not exceed 800 lbs when towing.
2. Do not tow more than two water skiers.

I tow all the time with ours, usually tubers and the occasional wakeboarder when we throw people in the back to add more weight.
