Carpet Care
« on: July 26, 2006, 22:21:35 pm »
I saw in the maintenance section about carpet care and they recommend using house detergent.  What is considered house detergent?

No use carpet cleaner, not soap. Sometimes a good pressure cleaning will help, if it has mildew.

Boat wash solution. No complaints yet, but no big stains to deal with either. I've seen the pressure washer really lift matted nap on a SAN. My carpet's getting pretty matted down in the aft part of the floor.

Pete rented one and said it worked well.  I use a Bissell Little Green Machine carpet cleaner and it works pretty well -- costs like $90.

I usually pull all the floor panels and do them in the driveway.  Then, I use a home style Bissell upright steam cleaner. I use the hand attachment for the corners. You can allways do it the old skool way, you can always use a scrub brush to bring the knap back. You can use a hose to gently soak the carpet and let it drain out the bilge drain. A bucket and some liquid laundry soap will do'er. It doesn't really take any longer either way, just use a shop vac to extract the water if you use a hose so it will dry more quickly.
