s22 prop ?
« on: June 28, 2013, 16:01:22 pm »
I am looking for a different prop for a little bit better out of the hole performance with extra weight in boat.  I think I am running a 13x13.  Does anyone know if the gear ratio is 1.23-1 on a s22.  What kind of difference would I be looking at if I went with a acme 515 13x12 or 525 13x11.5.  I have seen other posts but none with s22 and gear ratio of 1.23-1 I think.  Thanks

Sorry we didn't answer. So what did you decide and how'd it work out? My v-drive is listed as 1.21:1, and tranny is 1.03:1. Not sure if this nets to 1.25:1. ACME recommended #653 (3-blade 13 x 13 with 0.06 cup) based on my desire to not toally screw up our cruise mpg.  Looks like the one thread here mentioning the 653 says it should get almsot up to redline but not quite. Would hate to still leave rpms on the table...

I went with the 13x11.5 acme 525.  Man that thing was a world better but I just hit it on my boat lift so it is in for repair.  I decided to try the 13x11 acme 1231 for a little bit more performance.  Not that the 525 was bad but I was not going to put the old 13x13 oj back on that thing sucks compared to the acme 525 and it will be out for 3 to 4 weeks getting fixed.

Finally pulled the trigger...will report out after our Havasu trip this weekend. (Google or YouTube up Desert Storm Havasu).

Posted pics like this 12 years ago :-)

Shown are the OEM 13x13" 3-blade NiBrAl, the OJ 13x13" 4-blade stainless, and the Acme 525 13x11.5" 3-blade NiBrAl.

The OJ SS is pretty beat up from me being lazy. Took the file to it a few times but never bad enough to send to repair shop.

Let the wife decide between 653 and 525. Her answer is don't you dare make the boat go slower...

44mph and 5850 rpm with the giant bimini up. Feels like a new boat! I'm sure a lot of it is due to the 4-blade being roughed up, but overall, will agree with you all that the 525 is a great all around prop for the S22. Darn near redline and strong pull throughout. So smooth! Anxious to see how it tows.
