Water Pump

I had freshwater cooling installed in my boat until it overheated.  The raw water pump was working great but the coolant from the engine side of the heat exchanger  was cool still and not circulating.  I concluded that it was the water pump on the interior of the engine.

 Now i own the full maintenance manual and it walks though how to do the replacement although it involves removing the timing belt.  I was wondering if there is any special tools needed to put the timing belt back or if there is any other explanation for the problem.

Has the freshwater cooling system ever worked?

If you just installed it or changed the coolant, you may have an air pocket that is preventing the coolant from flowing correctly.  All you need to do is bleed the system (center bolt on the heat exchanger with the fill tube cap off) then add more coolant via the throttle cap.

Once I've bled my system, it works great!

When a fresh water kit is installed there is a alumin sleeve and special gasket to go where the thermostate goes. First make sure it has these parts... See installation TSB. also yes you need to bleed the system of air it take the hex head bleed screw out.

I sold the last fresh water kit....

It's a #10 hex key
