Stereo wiring question
« on: June 24, 2007, 02:45:04 am »
I'm replacing the factory Kenwood and my plan is to use the connector off of the old head so I can spice and solder on my workbench instead of laying upside down under the dash. The Kenwood has a yellow wire with a black box in-line (noise suppressor?) and a red wire and my new Jenson just has a red wire. Which one should I use to power my new unit?

Typically, the yellow is the switched power, the red is the memory power to hold the station presets. You might want to splice in the supressor, it may help, put it in the switched power line. Your Jensen probably has a wiring diagram with it.

Well, I hooked the yellow to the red and everything worked! Very uncharacteristic of me not to have wired anything backwards...just plug and play. Thanks!
