Bilge question
« on: June 13, 2007, 04:50:46 am »
Is there a "normal" amount of time that should pass between bilge activation??  Evidentally a friend of mine said he thinks my bilge comes on quite a bit (more than normal). Are there specific things I should check to see if too much water is entering the boat?  If so, what would "most likely" be the cause?  Thanks for any input.

It will most likely be the prop packing. It may need to be tightened or replaced.

Mine was dripping pretty good after de-winterization. I tightened it a full turn to get back to the normal drip...drip...drip...

Check the hose clamps on the water hoses.  I initially tightened the shaft packing but still had a great deal of water coming in.  Finally, I looked at the engine area while it was running and saw water coming out of water intake hose.  Tightened up the clamps and all was good.
On a side note my bilge does not come on automatically. Anyone have a similar problem?  Is this an electrical switch problem or did the previous owner change the bilge to a non automatic?  I will look today and see what type I have.
