S22 No Ignition Alarm Tone No Start

I have an S22 2001 Epic and was wondering if anyone has maybe had my same problem.  My guages work when I turn the switch on, my kill switch lanyard is fine, and the neutral safety switch works but my boat will not start.  When I turn the key on I get no ignition alarm tone anymore.  Engine cranks but will not start.  I have tried all the usual solutions from this forum.  The problem has come and gone but last week it finally gave up on me and I can't get an ignition alarm tone at all anymore.  I am currently working back from the dash through the electrical to work out the problem.  Captain Rick was very helpful and encouraging but if anyone has any other specific advice it would be appreciated.  Just throwing it out there.

It has to be the safety lanyard switch. Try bypassing it

I had a similar problem last year and for me it was a simple as making sure that kill switch button was fully engaged(pulled out). I use a wire tie( i know, I know) so it's always engaged, but over the years it's gotten deprecated and did not pull the peg out quite far enough to engage(disengage?) the kill switch.

I discovered this after I basically took the dash apart. The other thing that will not come on if it's the kill switch is the electronic message center gauge in the dash. But the engine would turn over and other gauges come on.

I hope that's what is is for you. I would bypass it per cylcone's suggestion before I tried anything else...if the above does not work

Already bypassed the lanyard kill switch.  It is not any fuses, I have checked any and all, even the ones that are really hard to get to underneath the dash.  When I turn on the ignition switch to the on position after a few seconds my guages on the dash buzz and are alive and the electronic message center comes on as well and functions normally. 

Two weeks ago my boat died in the river.  Two hours later it came back to life and ran all day just fine.  Then the day after it died again and again a day later it started right up and was fine for a day.  The last time I drove it I got ten miles down river and it died.  It has not started since.  I have not had ignition tone since then.  What would happen is the boat would die and when I would turn the switch back on there would be no ignition tone so no fuel pumps run and no running engine.

I appreciate the suggestions....keep em coming maybe I can get this figured out before the weekend so I can wakeboard!

Similar symptoms to ones I had once. Turned out to be one low battery. The second battery was fine, but one was low. Replaced it and no more problem.

Concur on either a low battery or a loose battery cable. By the way, is there a way to disable all the beeps and buzzes we have to listen to when we turn the key? It gets pretty annoying on the 15th restart of the day.

The battery is not the problem.  Battery is brand new and all connections have been cleaned already, it also reads 12.3 volts on the multimeter.  Here is a list of things I have already done or Capt. Rick has suggested...

Cleaned ground connection on main switch, engine ground, battery etc...

Bypassed killswitch lanyard

Checked all fuses

Pushed red fuel pump button many times, fuel pumps do not run

Replaced round silver relays

Unplugged and replugged all the connectors under dash including all engine connectors



The only thing left that is simple but I haven't been able to find is to replace the Fuel Pump Relay that is square and black.  It is probably expensive but hell it rules out one more thing that it can not be.  I have also checked to make sure the ignition switch is good and 12v power is going to the purple wire that Capt. Rick informed me was the one that starts the engine.  Other than what I have done I am lost because there are no wiring diagrams that actually show where the engine wiring harness connects to the main harness.  Working my way back is difficult with all the coaming and electrical tape. I look forward to more suggestions...

Ah Capt. Rick to the rescue!!  Rick went over some things with me and ended up bypassing the ignition switch to check if the fuel pumps run.  Eureka, they run so there is a wire loose or not grounded correctly under the dash.  Gonna take it all down and inspect it tomorrow so problem will be solved shortly.  Good thing is if I can't get it to work the way it used to tomorrow I can still go wakeboarding cause I can hot wire it!!!!  Thanks for all the suggestions....

Problem ended up being the waterproof connector that has the purple and yellow with red tracer going into it on the port side of the boat.  There was corrosion on the  part of the connector with the purple wire connected.  Couldn't clean enough to get it to work so just bypassed it for now.  As usual something really simple.
