How about the thermostat can I buy that at an auto part store or should I just buy one from tms parts? It would be much cheaper from there!

If you want a 170 degree use this.  I have closed cooling and 170 is ideal.  If raw water cooled you may want to consider 160 degree but 170 should be fine unless you run in salt water.

Stant 14077 170 degree THERMOSTAT  $10.88 at Advance Auto Parts
Stant 27286 thermostat gasket seal ring   $1.99  at Advance Auto Parts

HI
I have just had my impeller in and out four times and finally ended up putting the old one back in, I replaced the old one just for maintenance reasons, it started showing small cracks on the very outer edge and  it didn't look like the pump had ever been disassembled (paint still intact on screws) when I put the new one in the temperature while idling would start to climb up towards the 200 degree mark and as soon as the engine rpm went up it would go back to normal 170 degrees.
Both impellers have Johnson 812 imprints in the rubber, but the old one is 1/16 of and inch taller, I went on line and got the specs and the 812 is suppose  to be 1 an 15/16 inch tall, the new one is closer to 1 an 7/8 inch, I went and looked at another new one and it was identical to the other new one, I kept thinking it must be something else, so I put in the old impeller back in and just fired it up and it has lots of water pressure. Has anyone else had issues like this, and where can I get and impeller that truly is the 1 an 15/16.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I know this is a basic question, but I have screwed it up before...did you make sure you turned the new impeller in the same direction as the old one when you installed it. If it is turned the wrong way, it may not completely reverse when the belt turns it at speed -- my guess is that some of the fins may not self-correct.

Also, you mentioned you were going to replace the thermostat. Is that because it was overheating already? If not, have you tried the old thermostat with the new impeller?

I took my pump and both impellers down to a local boat repair facility and they noted that the stock impeller was 1/16 on and inch taller then the replacement, they called the factory (johnson pumps) who told him the pump would have to be replaced. I found a web site for Jabsco pumps with all the dimensions and found a jabsco impeller which is 3/32 of an inch taller than the 812, I put it in and have great pressure, and my heater works good even at idle. I am very pleased, I even found it at a local store that has 6 of them in stock for 28.00 dollars.
I wasn't the one who was replacing my thermostat, mine is working good.
I did find a hose that I mounted part of the perfect pass on that has some wear on it that I would like to replace, is there a listing for the hoses and were to buy them at. I tried TMS but didn't get any response?

Sounds like it worked...is it the original seawater pump? I just put a new 812 in mine and it works fine. If the pump housing is larger, maybe its a different pump.

It is the original sea water pump, the strange thing is the impeller that came out of it is stamped Johnson 812, the parts person had th e correct impeller listed as a 08-812 and that impeller is no longer available and was reffered to the 09-812 which is the only one I could find, there is an obvious difference in size, the 09-812 is smaller by about a 1/16 of an inch. I took it out yesterday morning and had sunshine and flat water, thats good for Washington :)
