Question on coolant pipes on top of engine
« on: June 07, 2020, 23:44:12 pm »
Hi All

I have a question about the two coolant pipes on top of the engine.  I have 2 pipes connected to this that runs under the V-Drive and the gas tank and to the front of the boat. I am just curious does anyone know what these pipes are supposed to do? Are they part of the cooling system and if so what could they be possibly be connected to in front of the boat.

I am hoping someone would know the answer to this question before I rip out all the panels in front of the boat. I am attaching a photos to show the exact location of the outlets. Also I have the clear pipes connected to the outlet to get the air out of the cooling system.

Thanks

Capt Rick

The hoses are supplying hot water for the Heater box located under drivers dash. Also hot water for shower.

Thanks Captain Rick - but they have Coolant (closed loop system). How do they provide hot water for the shower? Also any downside to just capping them (aside from no shower and heater)?

Follow the hose either fitting on lower exhaust drain or only cold water shower? Why do you want to remove an option like heater > and Shower>

What is the hull Number

the heater is AWESOME you definitely want to keep it. I live in the south and it is still nice to have in the evenings and in the spring when it's cool.

Its exactly like a car heater, there's a box with a heater core inside and a blower on the side. I replaced my heater core this year with the replacement from heatercraft, it fit fine but I had to notch the box as the pipes were shifted an inch or so. Took five minutes to do that.

I pulled the footboard and plastic structure holding the heater box and put a sub box there, I am in the process of mounting the heater box in a better way for best access and function. If you pull the plastic structure and have an SX, put the screws back in with some sealant as the screws go into the starboard ballast tank.

I have the antifreeze cooling system along with the heater and shower.  I just put a t-hose fitting on the fresh water sides of the heat exchanger for cold and hot then ran them to the shower.  Hot is not as hot as before I did the antifreeze cooling system changeover but nice when you want a warm shower.  Usually don't mix any cold water taking the warm shower:-)
