Engine Part Leaking Water
« on: September 09, 2019, 02:44:06 am »
Need help identifying an engine part that is leaking water.  I suspect it is the water pump but I would like to verify before investing time and money.  I have attached two pics of the part that is leaking.  Epic1 shows the pulley of the part.  Epic2 points out where the part is leaking.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

So I just had to repair this exact issue on my boat. The lip seal in your pump has failed. To replace it you have to remove the pump from the boat remove the pulley from the pump, remove the pulley shaft and bearings from the pump, drive out the old seal with a socket and then install the new one from the inside. It's not too bad of a job, took me about two hours including removing the pump from the engine.

Worth noting that freezing the bearings and shaft and heating the pump body in very hot water makes reinstalling the shaft/bearings easier.

When you have the pump apart check the bearings they should be rust free and spin smoothly.

I stumbled across this document a while ago. I'm pretty sure it refers to the pump that is used on our boats, but someone else might want to confirm before you order parts.

I got mine from Bakes. They are a mile from my house. I believe this is what they sold me.

When you install/remove the shaft use a block of wood so that you don't scratch the shaft/pump. Don't forget to remove the snap ring before you attempt to drive out the shaft.
