1999 E22, need correct part number or Pounds for the two gas shocks on back lid.

I purchased an Attwood 60lb (by direction from my brother). We installed it and it was like a Jack-In-the-Box and the only way it would stay down was with my 200lb husband laying on it while I was pulling it shut from inside the trunk.

Any advice to the correct part number or pressure/pounds to go the back of direct drive?

I used 15" 20lb Taylor Made gas shocks. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MUTE1O/

My originals were 15lb shocks and they weren't strong enough. I disconnect mine during the off season so that they last longer.

It's a lot tougher to close it but the latch does hold it down.

I went with 15lb atwood gas springs, and they were a bit strong. Started to flex the trunk lid up on either side around the latch.

The original 1999 trunks had a solid plastic foundation which would warp and absorb water and weigh more. In stock replaced that with a honeycomb material which did not warp and was lighter and I have a few in stock just look up the word, TRUNK
