Transmission Cooler
« on: April 15, 2017, 23:51:27 pm »
At the end of last season, while winterizing my SX22, I noticed a slow drip from the transmission cooler. Upon further inspection, it looks like one of the end caps is coming off, causing a water leak. I checked the transmission fluid and it is clean and clear - There has been no intermix with the water.

Questions:
1. Is this an off the shelf part I can order anywhere?

2. I saw a past post where someone repaired their cooler. I don't know what the internal structure is like, but is a repair possible without jeopardizing the integrity of the oil passages?  Given that there is no water in the trans fluid, maybe this is a possibility?

Here is the factory cooler

3349067010   Cooler,TransmissionOil,VT300i           119.29    $15.00

I would not try to fix it. If you get water in transmission or loose fluid the failure will cost you about $1200.

The part number does not have 90° on it but it will work. Might have to use new hoses that are 1 1/4 inch and with wire to take the 90° placement

Do you have any pictures of what it looks like without the 90? I don't recall the cooler on my SX having a 90.. My boat is stored about an hour drive away right now, so I'll have to take a look at what's there this weekend.
