HOT water soaking carpet under driver feet
« on: June 24, 2015, 22:26:01 pm »
I had my boat out for the first time this year and as I was cruising down the lake I felt hot water under my feet.  The water has to be coming from the motor, but I cannot see water building up in the hull only water soaking the carpet under the dash.  The boat runs fine and all the gauges are reading normal.  I can see two black rubber hoses running through the battery compartment that are hot to the touch I'm guessing they could have a small leak causing hot water to spray.  I have pulled the battery compartment out and looked while running and cannot see any water running from anywhere and my bilge is not pumping an exorbitant amount from it either.  Any thoughts?

The hot water could be coming from the heater hoses.  Do you have a heater (hot air blower)?  The blower unit is bow side of your foot panel on the driver's side.

You can bypass it at the engine, pass side right by ski pylon. Its exactly like a car heater core. Definitely bypass or pinch both hoses off and wire tie them or you'll have cooling issues. You probably popped the heater core or one of the hoses over the winter. You shouls pull the hoses off and drain the heater core when winterizing if you don't use the coolant method

It appears to be coming from the heater box so most likely the heater core is bad.  Would it be best to connect the two heater hoses together to keep the water running through them.

Also, mine is an X-22 and it looks like the heater hoses are coming from the drivers side on the rear of the motor.

If you decide to replace your heater core, contact heatercraft. The new heater assemblies are much much better designed, they now have what appears to be a bent copper tube that has fins on it, not the fragile aluminum heater core.

Heater craft can sell you just the box and the core, which is a much better deal than buying a completely new unit. Your old blower will bolt on to the new box. Did this last year, and it works great.
