Seat seams coming apart?
« on: February 16, 2003, 04:30:38 am »
I have a problem with the seams on the back seats pulling apart, it's happening on all three cushions to some degree. Rick Cohn shot me down for warrantee repair, said the boat had been out in the sun. Well, yeah. I mean its a boat. I use it mostly on sunny days. I always put the cover on, I mean ALWAYS. It looks exactly like the problem Malibu had with their 2000 models, I'm going to start writing emails to Toyota to get them to honor their bumper to bumper warrantee. Anyone else notice the problem? I'll post a pic when I get the seats back.

Ya know, he told me the same thing!
But he did replace my sundeck for bad seams.
Then he had the nerve to tell me it was a freebie because
vinyl is not covered under warranty!

Afterward I thought about it.  My boat is covered
for two more years "Rubrail to Rubrail"
I think the vinyl is within the two rubrails!! ???

To me the problem seems to be there is not much
factory vinyl left and these problems are about to cost
Toyota a lot of cash.  I've had two seams repaired and
I see several others that will not survive the warranty period.

I got a reply to my email to Rick, tried the nice approach. He said that he would check with the manufacturer, it wasn't G&T vinyl, it was some company called Morbern Manufacturing. Out of the two dozed or so Toyotas I've seen, mine has by far more hours (387) than all but one, it had already had all it's upholstery replaced. I would recommend that everyone with a Toyota with the smallest defect in your upholstery email Rick Cohn. If enough of us get involved we might get some satisfaction. See the History page for an encoded link to his email address. I don't want to put it in plain text or he will get spammed to death.

Has anyone but me emailed the guy? ATLBuff, you should, you are probably coming up on the end of your warrantee too. They won't do anything unless we gang up on them, they are declining every warrantee claim they can these days. They fixed all the other little things, but I want Toyota to belly up and fix things they supposedly warranteed. I will post the official Toyota warrantee statement this weekend, I dug through some stuff at the dealer.
