speaker question
« on: February 25, 2008, 09:50:29 am »
If I am wakeboarding, how many watts do I need in two tower speakers to clearly hear the music.  What are good semi expensive speaker brands, and what size amp for the set up.  I don't want to install big speakers to avoid dents in my forhead, is it possible to get good sound from 6 inchers. If not, what do I do. Any help please.  I was looking on e-bay and saw some 6 inch rokford fosgates 250 amp each for around $230. (am I getting what I pay for?) Thanks Bart

You are not really going to hear 6.5's behind the boat. I have 4 6x9 Polk Momos with about 450 watts on them and can hear it but it's not loud. I'd save up for some Wetsounds if you want to go with just 2 speakers and hear it.

try a water proof mp3 player like liquidforce liquid tunes. you get to hear your music as loud as you want and your crew wont go deaf. I've completely stopped using my tower speakers after we bought a couple of these. Unless your ego is telling you you need the loudest stereo on the lake. In that case just open up your wallet and never be completely satisfied.

I don't use the tower speakers to hear the music while boarding. It's distracting for the driver and obnoxious sometimes. Most times. I do like jamming tunes when tied up or camping, etc. I like the sound of the polk momos in my boat and on the tower.

That being said, a pair of those wetsounds is all you need if you want to hear it back there.

I'd like to try a waterproof MP3. I can buy a case and headphones for my shuffle, may do that.
