Parts needed but not sure what they are called
« on: February 11, 2008, 01:27:38 am »
I need the 2 rear mounts that bolt on to the engine that hold the plastic cover that's on top of the engine.  Both of mine broke off and in need of new ones.

Any help?

The Toyota manual calls the plastic cover a V-Bank Cover. The part your looking for is the V-Bank Cover Bracket.

Hey - my name is Mike and I have an epic engine I am putting into a Ski Nautique - If you can wait several weeks for me to get to my engine in storage I will see if I have all those brackets - Best I remember, it was missing one of them when I bought it and I am not planning on buying the cover for my application - I kinda like the way the engine looks without the cover anyway - whatever you think is a fair price will be OK with me - for everyone else I do have some other engine parts I will be listing for sale this Spring - I will have to take inventory of parts available - not too many but I do have one head [starboard I believe] that looks to have never been used and I also have an intake manifold also looks to have never been used - a couple other small parts I may list or keep -    Mike

Mike,
Welcome. I'm sure we all would like to see how your project comes along.  I'm sure you will find that there are several people that may be able to help if you have questions...However, I'm not one of those people.

Welcome to the site Mike,
That's an interesting winter/spring project you've got there. Start a new post with some pics of your boat and engine and then keep us up to date with lots of pictures and commentary as you go.
I'm sure we can offer tons of suggestions to solve any problems you might run into  ;)  at least a couple of the members on here are affiliated with Toyota and can offer some worthwhile advice.

Do you have any experience yourself to tackle this project?
Does it look like everything will line up pretty good?
Are the stringers the same width or are you going to have to fabricate some mounts?
Direct drive or V drive?
Did you buy the boat or engine first?
Where are you located?
Thanks that will satisfy my curiosity for the moment.

Looking forward to the final pic on the water! ;D

Hey guys - thanks for the interest - I'm sure I'll need some advice along the way - I have worked around boats my whole life -
the last eight years or so with GMC - DUKW's  [The Chattanooga Ducks] - They are the old amphibs you see in old war flicks -
Most notibly and their first real big use was in the Invasion of Normandy - We use them in an Adventure Tour style business - We have built two from the ground up and all of them are in constant need of repair - Engines are routinely pulled to replace clutches and with the newer ones we have built, the automatic tranny's seem to only last two or three years - This set-up with the Toyota engine in the Ski Nautique looks to be rather straight forward - I do need the brackets which attach to the straight drive transmission [ZF Hurth] - The stringers are much too narrow to use the aluminum mounting base that is used with the Epic as is - I plan on cutting and narrowing it and reversing the mounting tabs so they are outside the base instead of inside and letting them hang over my stringers [I just hope this is not too high] - I still need to do the preliminary measurements to see if this will work - I just hate to give up the rigidity of that aluminum box mounted inside my stringers - The boat is a '78 Correct Craft Ski Nautique at 17'9" and a 6'9" beam weighing 2100 lbs with the iron block Ford 351 and was bought before I found this engine for it; it was not an original idea, just chance - I am in Tennessee - any help with the tranny mounts would be nice - Capt. Mike
