10% ETHANOL GAS
« on: February 17, 2008, 18:25:08 pm »
The lovely state of Oregon has gone to 10% ethanol in all its gas.  Does anyone else have this problem.  If so, what have you done as far as storage, and regular season.  Is there a different filter anyone uses?  Has anyone had any problems with this mix?

Bummer.  How far are you to the state line?

Here's the federal list of areas that require ethanol:
http://www.epa.gov/otaq/rfg/whereyoulive.htm

I live in one of the federal areas, but I can drive about 40 minutes to a non RFG area.  I've got lots of 6 gallon tanks and I fill them up and bring 'em home for the boat.  In my area, once you cross the county line, gas stations have big signs that say "no ethanol."  The first gas station beyond the line always has lots of boats gassing up.

I will drive far to be sure I don't put ethanol in the boat.  Search "ethanol" on this site and you'll see that it can lead to significant trouble for boats.

I hear Ya.  Been that way here in WI for some time. luck for me i only have to drive 20 min north to get to the next county that doesnt have the 10%.  i also have 3 5 gallon tanks that i always fill when i go up there or up north to ski.  hope it goes well for you.  too much snow on the ground right now and i am dying to ski really soon.  i just pulled out the dry suit.  looking for the open water.

Unforunately, for me, I live 60 or so miles to the border of another state.  I guess I'll just have to deal with it and keep fresh filters in the boat and make sure and store it with ZERO gas in it.

Try me,

I found that the Citgo at I-43 at the Cedar Grove exit does not use ethanol (at least it didn't last summer).  I used to drive the the Exxon station on Hwy 45, just into Dodge County, but I think Cedar Grove is closer.

If that Cedar Grove Citgo has ethanol I would be shocked - I know the Mobil just West of there on 32/LL doesn't have ethanol either.  The funny thing is that there is a Renew E85 station kiddie corner to that Mobil - so I will fill up the truck with Corn Fuel and grab a 5 gallon (or two) can from the Mobil station kiddie corner for my jetski.  I am sure that guy is like WTF is going on - I am sure he doesn't like the Corn gas station right across the street but scratches his head seeing me around going to both.
