Oil and fuel filters
« on: September 28, 2007, 17:07:51 pm »
Do I have to use toyota filters,  I imagine I don't have to, but how do I find cross reffrences to other brands.  Thanks Bart  Oh, also, I got mercon v tranny fluid, is that ok to use, or do I need other stuff.  Thanks.

I would recommend using the Toyota oil filter.  When ordered on-line from a dealer that will sell at wholesale they are no more expensive than a non Toyota.  Go to the local Toyota dealer and look at the cut away oil filters that they should have in the parts department.  The Toyota filters are far superior to the non Toyota filters.  For this reason I only run genuine Toyota filters in my Tundra and Highlander at $3.70 per filter.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm a sucker for high-quality/high value brands. Mobil1 is not cheap but is arguably some of the best around. OEM filters and fluid are cool from a CYA perspective, but no doubt at all that M1 fluids and filters are really high quality. I might go to Chevron for fuel, but hit Starbucks for coffee. Not a flashy, gotta have nice clothes thing (cuz I don't), it's just fluids are important. I'm hitting a mudslide right now :-)

I agree with Derek and Jonwadkins.  I use Mobile 1 stuff exclusively like Derek.  However, It's probably like killing an ant with a sledgehammer.  The standard Toyota filters are an excellent choice as well.

I googled the part name in the maintenance section and didn't have much luck.  Anyone know of a national chain or website that I can use?  Tnx Brian

I did my winterization today.  The above fuel filter is not correct for my S-22.  Mine is a quicksilver 35-802893Q. You may want to double check before you go get one.  I got mine here http://www.saveonboating.com/proddetail.asp?prod=L710-35-802893Q
I have 2 of the 35-802893T filters if anyone wants them for $5 each plus shipping.
