When running off the hose/plunger combo

Should the boat continuously spit water out the tail pipe or should it come out in bursts every 10 or 15 seconds?

Mine is doing the latter and this seems to me not how I remember it working after I fixed up the broken transmission cooler and bad impeller at the beginning of the season.

I have seen two Toyota epics on a fake-a-lake and both of them did exactly what yours is doing.  I'm not an expert, but there must be a reason (like pressure building until the rear flap opens) the water doesn't poor out more regularly.  Either way, you should be fine.

Thanks ktown. 

Is there enough suction without pressure from the hose to suck up antifreeze out of a bucket?  I was trying to avoid taking off the intake from the hull and jamming a hose in there.

Seems like a bucket under the exhaust with 4 gallons of RV antifreeze and a hose in the bucket attached to the fake a lake would be the easiest way to get the engine to suck it up but no go after 5 minutes at 1500 RPM's.

I hook up a hose  past the sea-strainer and run anti-freezer. you need to remove  the sea-strainer and clean yearly anyway.

MIne does that. While flushing out this season i attached a water hose to the intake hose just past the sea strainer with a coupler that fits a water hose. acted just like that. It's not the flaps in the back cause I only have one(yes only one exhaust hole at the back) and the flap does not have enough pressure to hold water back like that. I checked my impeller afterwards and it was brand new looking.

Look at your exhaust tubing, it is "U" shaped and the water has to build up on the lower portion before the exhaust gases will carry it up over the top of that "U" and out the exhaust outlets.  It's normal.

AND, I agree that you should clean the sea strainer, anyhow, so just pour it in where the strainer came out of.  I do believe it's easier that way than to mess around with a Fake-A-Lake hookup.  The general answer to the question asked is - it should pull enough of a vacuum to suck up the antifreeze if your water pump is in good shape.  Just make sure that you have something in the suction hose to lubricate the pump BEFORE you start the engine.  Dry rubber on metal will burn out the impellers in a very short time.  If you get some of the antifreeze on your hands, it feels slippery and that's good!  Does the same thing in your water pump.

Depending on what I'm doing to the boat, i.e. when running it for draining the oil, I take the sea strainer off, wrap a rag around a heavy duty garden hose, and stuff it into the hose that the outlet of the strainer goes into. It's good because you can let it leak a bit, I've seen that hose inflate like a balloon on boats where the hose was connected with a tight connection:) Turn the hose on and warm the boat up with hose water.

If you just want to winterize, pull the thermostat (3x12mm nuts) and bolt the housing back up. Hook a large funnel to the inlet hose and pour the fluid in while running until its leaking out the exhaust flaps. Run the shower pump if you have one. Heater core will fill automatically w/fluid. Shut engine off and replace thermostat. Make sure .125" hole in tstat is at 1200, so air will burp out of the housing when you are running.

USE ENVIRONMENTALLY SAFE ANTIFREEZE:00 It's gonna end up in the lake or in the ground water.

THAT being said, I just drain my block and manifolds and heater and shower and oil and trans cooler. Hmm, the antifreeze method might be better, with a V drive situation. I usually run my boat during the winter, but the lake is DOWN this year. :(((

Thanks guys.  I just took two hours on Wednesday to do it the old fashioned way.  Sealed it all back up and now it is ready for the winter slumber under the carport.
