What is the function of the red light?
« on: August 17, 2007, 22:21:25 pm »
I'm new to the whole Toyota Marine line. I didnt recieve an owners manual with the Epic 21 I bought. I got my instrumentation fixed thanks to Captain Rick (thanks again ), but is the red dash light temperarure or oil pressure related, or does it function like a "hey dummy check all of your gauges " light. Thanks in advance for your help.

MOM0020000 Manual,Owners,w/7GaugeDash,All99,00Models     $10.95  $15.00

The red light is for the engine computer indicating trouble code. Usually the engine goes into a default code. The engine idles at 1200 rpm. Also when you turn your key on . The oil alarms should go off or high water temp. None of this is in the owners manual.

I have a red light on my dash... Hi drive temp I believe.  When the engine is on it is lit until I'm in gear and under way.

I have a 2001 S22 and the same thing with the drive light, when it is idling it is on and as soon as it goes in gear it goes out, I would be very interested in what it is suppose to be telling me ;D

Capt Rick, I have never had an alarm sound in my S22 when the key is switched to start the boat.  Do all of the boats have this and if so how would I figure out why mine does not sound and should I be worried that I may be missing an audible alarm since mine is not working?

When the key is in the on position there is the loudest and annoying sound.... It is a solid bast until the key is turned to crank the engine or after 15-30 seconds... (seems like an eternity).  If it is anything other than solid single blast then then computer is in a "problem state" (I believe) or the safety switch will not let the motor start.  Motor still cranks, but will not start.

The sound is so annoying that I've seen many folks post about how to disable the audible alarm.  If I was troubleshooting the first thing I would do if there is no sound would be to hook the audible alarm back up.

So is the red light that started this post different than the hi drive temp?  I don't seem to have just a red light on my S22

I discovered in talking to some of the other owners last week that SOME Vdrives (my SX, for one) have the drive temp light that stays on when the boat is running but not moving. Other Vdrives made the same year do not do this, no V drive temp light at idle. ?????? Capt Rick?
