Wakesurfing Setup
« on: February 22, 2007, 15:45:10 pm »
We may have covered this topic a few times in different threads but I thought I would check on any new ideas on fat sack placement, lbs and use of internal ballast for wakesurfing wakes.

In addition, has anyone switched there prop rotation in order to create the best wake on their prefered side?

Half of my kids are regular and the other half are goofy footed so I usually don't weight my boat strickly on one side if we are all together.

My default set up is internal ballast full (700 lbs).  A 400 lb fat in each engine side compartment and either a 800 fat sack or 400 lb fat sack up front in the walkway.  Not super happy with the wake so I'm looking for suggestions or how you guys maximize your wakes.

Well, with 2400 lbs in there, you are about maxed out! Put three 550's in the trunk, and one across the 800 in the bow:)

All the weight needs to be on one side.  The side you want to surf.

Don't add so much weight that you bury the swimstep. I've had a lot of fun with 1000 - 1400 pounds, toward the side you want to surf, and a slow turn toward the side the surfer is on.

Hi All,

Any pictures of the wake? I want to buy an SX but I want to see if the wake will  be good for wkesurfing as that will be the main reason we want to buy.

TIA!

It's nothing like a malibu with the wedge down and gravity games bags.

But plenty good to surf on.
This is on my S22 with 500 in starboard locker and 4 people on board

YW.  For a new or used Malibu?  For the same year and same hours as a toyota you will pay a little more for the malibu and a lot more in the long run.

Looking back at this, it's a pretty decent surf wake, no long but fun looking and perhaps more weight could push it higher... anyone have pics with a lot of weight on it? :)

If you put more weight on the back, swim platform will dig into the wake. I raised it by 3" which helped a lot, but still have to distribute the weight equally on one side. I am thinking about carving out about 6" of both corners, or getting a different( smaller and tapered) platform like the one from Correct Craft. Since malibu and Sx have a similar hull shape, Sx should give you a huge wake if properly weighed with smaller platform. When I took off the platform with about 1200 lb on one side, wake was waist high and clean.

Waist-high? Really?? Nice!! Was it long or did it have a small sweet spot?  Have any pics? :)

Can you let us know how that goes with the changes to the platform? How hard is it to move it up 3 inches?

I am thinking about buying an SX but wakesurfing is the primary purpose and I want to make sure there's something I can do to get a really fun wake.

Thanks in advance!

I am still trying to dial in a perfect weight with the platform on. It cost me about $150 to raise 3" on the bracket. But I still think I need to get a smaller ( tapered) platform so that I can sink the back of the boat to get a steep wake like it was without the platform. Length of the wake depends on how the boat is weighed. I did not take any pictures of wakes. I will  try to get some pictures once I sort out platform issues.

Ride on.  Are there any other platforms that will just bolt on... perhaps from other boats?  Please do keep us posted.  I know the Epic is not a wakesurfing boat per se, but I want one for the reliability and economy (and looks!) and was hoping I could set it up somehow to make my friends' with their new 226 and  220's jealous, even if only slightly :)
