Fuel Circulator...
« on: August 14, 2007, 15:52:54 pm »
Anyone out in Toy land know where fuel is circulated from, to and back to after pressing this red button?  I would swear that when I use it 10 minutes before putting my boat in the water that the engine runs like crap for 5 to 10 min and then clears up.   I might also have a bad plug, but a bad plug couldn't be the cause for running bad for 5-10min could it?

I was told by the dealer that it is a good idea to push the button to circulate fuel before starting the engine.  Any harm if the only time I use the fuel circulating feature is part of winterization or annual maintenance?

I've never done this.  I also don't have your problems with your engine running rough.

I interested to find out if I've been missing something.

Thanks for the data point Brad!  The red button on my S22 is located under the sun deck (in engine compartment) immediately below the base of the lower ski pylon.  There are other red "posts" (don't have a clue what they are) with white numbers on them as well.  Kind of hidden toward the back of the rear seat with Toyota Lettering.  And the one that can be pressed like a small switch is on the starboard side towards the bow.  It's a bit of a pain to push with big hands.

I'm searching/working through posts to fix both of my current problems and along the way hope I can rule this dealer advice variable out of future troubleshooting.

Plus I've always been curious that if it "circulates fuel..." how far into the engine... can't be into the cylinders!?

The button looking at the engine ( on top one button 3 breakers) on an S22 all the way to the left primes the rails if you lose fuel going to them. If you need to you push and hold for 3 minutes with the igmition key in the on position, you should hear the pumps running, then try to start

Dont know much about the fuel circulator but the running rough I do know a little about. All summer it has been running a little rough so I tried fuel filter, not better, fuel injector cleaner, not better, plugs, a little better, and then cleaned the mass air flow sensor much better it still runs a little funny at idle like rpms going up and down a little but Ive been told thats normal for our boats. The motors in our boats are a little fussy when it comes to fuel and stuff like that. Bad gas will make it run like crap!

Bad gas will make anything run bad thats why its bad. these boats run very good relatively easy to work and maintain. Anything 7-8 years old needs a little extra attention.

Thanks for the data.  Hmmm I was told it circulated fuel and just need to press it for a second to start the process.  This is helping my cause!  Thanks

I ALWAYS run premium, but lately haven't been paying attention to brand so the last two fill ups (and all future) will be with the Chevron premium.

Only problem I've had has been the mass air flow sensor in year 2.  (I've owned since 01)  It was bad so bad that I would get alarms and could only run in idle.  Under warrentee they replaced the sensor and did a few other things.  And all was well.  I saw the posts / pictures of the sensor recently.  It's on my checklist to inspect / clean when I'm back in town... need to search to see where it's located...

My dealer told me to push the red button with the fuel line disconnected to the fuel filter to pump down the fuel rails when I winterize it.  The kid seemed to be knowledgable about the lexus motor.  He said it will allow the motor to run in the spring.  I do as he suggested and have had no problems starting it each spring.  He failed to mention if I run out of fuel, except to say "Don't".

Thanks on the location of the MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor and yes anyone that know has anymore on this.

Not trying to be funny and spell it out... just helping the future search'ability' of topics

The fuel rail is the rail all your fuel injectors are on I beleive.  Its on the motor one on each side.
