I absolutely guarantee that I could find a marine fuel pump and marine fuel pressure regulator that would supply the necessary fuel pressure and flow to operate one of these engines.

Wow. Late lastnight was the first time I've heard the Epic sound puuuurfect since like July 2003.

1. Find and remove dust bunny wrapped around MAF sensor. Used FI cleaner spray to clean the two hot wire elements.

2. Clean buildup around throttle body intake and it's butterfly valve.

3. Replace spark plugs with new Denso Iridiums for the first time @ 350 hours.

Again, I'm just amazed at how the thing idles, andhow there's no more backlash sounds from the driveline while it gurgles. THAT's what I  remember :-)

Here are some pics of the plugs I removed. The two rich ones...not really sure if that's oil or fuel buildup or what. How concerned should I be? I guess run the thing and see if the new plugs get ugly after time. Comments appreciated.

Checking in at Laughlin's Colorado Bell Saturday, check out Wednesday. Haven't been to Mojave in years, but remember some beautiful beaches towards the dam. Wednesday check in to Island Inn in Lake Havasu, check out the following Tuesday. If my calculations are correct, that's up to nine lake days. Only problem is it sounds like there's hella monsoon t-storms rolling through. I've been scared at Havasu before, and Mojave can get bigger.

We're trying to make it out there (Havasu) from the 1st through the 5th of August. That weekend is the re-location grand opening of my buddy's mom's bar "The Firehouse Bar".  I guess this could be sort of a mini-Southwestern round up.

Some of the most detailed spark plug photos I've seen in a long time!

Hey Derek,
The plug in your bottom photo on the far left, is that insulator fully intact? It looks like its chipped... There also seems to be some black specs on it, which in a worst case scenario is a sign of detonation, it could just be oil though. Also, that plug looks to be running hot, but it could just be dirty. If you did not already spray that thing down with brake cleaner and see if that varnished look on the threads goes away. If not the plug is too hot. Only the first three threads should be discolored.

Those plugs look pretty bad . the one with all the threads discolored would worry me but it could just be the washer on the plug could be leaking.

Hmm, I swapped the plugs for the Densos about 3 weeks ago and it fired right up no problem when I dropped it in the water (in CDA btw, 330mi from home without tools... :-X).  Now this friday is a work day, going to buff and wax the gelcoat, teak-a the platrform, clean the MAF and tb, and maybe use some Seafoam on the intake manifold.  Ohh, and Im going to experiment with how much louder it is when you pull the exhaust flaps off, we paid for a Toyota V8 now I wanna hear it!! 8)

Thanks for the help, guys. They do look nasty to me. I seem to remember that the old plugs removed with much less torque than I expected. None of the insulators were chipped, although one of them looked to have some hairline cracks in the tip (I know high voltage and cracks are not good company).

Would it help if I pulled the eight new plugs after running for 33 hours in the past couple weeks and inspected those?
