Trailer Solenoid Replacement

Ugh!  I am being plagued by one of the biggest drags in boating.  When I shift into reverse, my brakes lock up. 

I happened to be near a marina and they took a look at the trailer and found that everything with my 5 pin set up was fine and that that the electricity was working well throughout the trailer.  They said that the problem was that the solenoid in the trailer had failed. 

Has anyone replaced a solenoid?  Is it a DIY project?  What does one cost?  The marina didn't have any in stock, so I never found out.

In the meantime, I am using the old electrical tape/nut trick to disable the brakes when I back up, but I'm afraid I will forget to take the nut away and find myself on the highway without trailer brakes when I need them.

Take 12 volts and send it directly to the solonoid. This will check if it is working vs bad wire or connections.

The marina did that and they were able to determine that the eletricity was fine, but the solenoid was not.

I would have a trailer place look at it. If the wire broke at the sol or the ground wire is off it will not work.

48.20 for the solenoid, I'm pretty sure it's the right one. You might call DHM trailers and verify that we have the a60 actuator

Just recieved some parts from DHM. We do have the A-60 actuator. UFP has also upgraded the master cylinder to an all aluminum type. Had to weigh a good pound less than the steel one I just replaced. Nice to see a company fixing their problems and not just pushing out more of the old crap.
If you replace the solenoid I would recommend you replace the large square plastic guide, the round small ones, and the pipe nipple from the master cylinder to the solenoid. Mine seized when swapping out the master cylinder. Thank god for home depot.
