Spare tire mount
« on: March 04, 2007, 19:25:04 pm »
I have a huge favor to ask anyone with a spare tire on their factory trailer. Could you please take a picture of the mount and provide measurements so I can fab up a couple of them (I'd rather not use the universal u-bolt type). My boat never came with a spare and I'd like to have two for my trips back and forth from Lake Havasu. I have the 4 holes drilled on the right side of the trailer frame for one mount and I'm going to duplicate that on the left side for the second mount. I tried Ameratrail and they weren't very helpful. They made it seem like they were going to have to specifically make two and that they weren't going to be very reasonable on price. You'd think that they'd have them in stock and that they're a standard item on their other trailers, but they don't seem to be. Thanks much.

Never mind, a buddy and I fabbed up a couple of this morning. We ballparked the specs from the mount on his Nautique trailer. Now I just need to drill 3 holes on each of them for the lug studs.

Wow that looks cool! The factory spare mount is a T made of flat bar that goes under the bow, the mounts are are there for it. Not the prettiest looking spare mount, yours is way more awesomer.

Finally! Here are the spare tire mounts after powder coating and installation with stainless hardware. The lug studs are the same type that are on the trailer hubs in case I need to replace one out on the road. Now I just need to get 2 matching wheels and tires before our trip to Lake Havasu for the 4th of July.

Very nice ... but why two spare tires? Is that lake that far that you actually may ware out some of your tires? Or are you trying to keep the trailer balanced  ::) 8)

No seriously, nice job. I'll have to take a pic of were my spare sits. It actually is flat on the trailer on a rack below the bow of the boat.

That looks cool. I have a belly mount that I had ameritrail fab up for me for like $20(they were out) Only problem is I think it must be for a tandem trailer as it is does not fit my single axle. I was dead sure i told them it was for an s22 and they looked it up. Most s22 come with a tandem trailer, though...

If anyone wants it let me know. Just pay for shipping. I can measure it to make sure it fits.

I like yours better, and I bought the standard side mount that works pretty good.

Sorry, I only had the resources to make the ones that I have. They were made from "scraps" from my buddy's uncle's metal fab shop. I could measure them for anyone who wants to make some.

I'm running 2 spares because the drive to Lake Havasu (which I do somewhat frequently) is over some pretty long desert areas. I want to more than ready in the spare department.

I wish I would have had two last summer, on my trip across the state I lost my first tire about 90 miles  :-\ from home, then the spare tire blew about 300 mile  ???. I had to park the boat and trailer with all my gear to go to the next town to get it fixed then come back. Good Job on the Two mounts.

Sweet man!

I have the under-bow spare and for a while the hull rested on it so there is actually a mark on the tire where they were in contact.  Then I bent it down as much as I could and it doesnt hit any more!

I like your mounts, clean and simple but I also like the factory one just because you dont see the spare.  Does look like a PITA to get the spare out though...
