Acme vs. Propellersonline - who should I buy from?
« on: June 13, 2007, 04:15:47 am »
I have my new Acme prop picked out (13R x 12 3 blade) for my 99 E22. The prop is almost $100 less at propellersonline.com than ACME is asking for it. Is there a reason I should pony up more money to buy straight from ACME? (Better warranty, exchange/return policy, etc.)? I sent an email to Bill Weeks at ACME, but he has not replied yet.

I got my OJ XMP from propellersonline and was quite happy.  I even got the wrong prop rotation because apparantly someone with an E21 had their prop rotation switched so the rep had ordered what they had in their "database".  They took care of it though - and promptly.

I think Acme won't discount the direct prices because they don't want to tick of any of their distributors.

Westtx,

What are you paying through propellersonline?  I bought my Acme last year from boarditup http://www.boarditup.com/shop/category.asp?catid=22, and only payed 350.00 (it is drop-shipped from the factory).  I talked to the owner twice and he is knowledgeable and friendly.  This was the best price I could find anywhere, and I looked a lot of places.

Oh, about the pricing difference, I would guess that they have an agreement with their dealers not to sell from the factory less than retail.  A lot of companies make these deals to show the dealers that they are not going to undercut them with factory direct sales.  Most boat manufactures are the same way.

The big difference I found was that Acme would give you a 30 day trial period to make sure you were happy with the prop. If not they would ship you out another until you had your boat dialed in the way you wanted it. Most other places won't do that. If you know what you want go for the best price, if not use Acme.

The Acme 540 (13 x 12 RH 3blade) is $332.50 on propellersonline.com with free shipping. I run at sea level up to around 2500 ft above, so this seem like the right prop. We use no ballast and mostly tug the kids around on their toys. At this price, I can get the puller and spend less than I would from ACME on the prop alone. I do like the idea of being able to keep mailing them back in until I get a perfect one, so I will probably mull it over for a few days. Thanks for the feedback.
